The last bell of the day when off making me very happy. I let out a sigh gathering my stuff before walking out of the classroom. I know my aunt wouldn't be home, so she wouldn't see that I didn't take the bus.
I put everything in my locker and began to make my way to the exit. When I came outside, I saw that it was raining. No, pouring. Great, just my luck. I saw the school bus standing there, but I'm not getting on that thing.
Pulling my jacket closer to my body, I walked down the steps and began to make my way home. Everybody around me was running, trying to get away from the rain.
I was walking, trying not to get splashed at by people running in puddles, but it wouldn't matter in a couple of minutes.
The rain will seep through my clothes even with my jacket.
I walk down the long road that should lead me to my aunt's house if I remember it correctly. My socks were already wet inside my shoes, and I'm not too fond of the feeling of it. I could feel my fingers getting numb.
Just keep on walking, and you will be home before you know it.
A car horn made me turn around. I couldn't see who it was because of the rain. The car stopped beside me, and the person rolled down their window.
To my surprise, it was Faye with Jay behind the wheel. I should have recognized that car. I have seen it twice by now.
"Hey, get in the car before you get sick!" Faye yelled above the rain that was making a lot of noise.
"No thanks, I'm almost home," I yelled back, wiping away the rain from my eyes. It kept on getting in my face from my hair on my forehead.
"Ava, I know where your aunt lives. It's still a few blocks away. Just get in the car, and we will drive you there." I let out a sigh stopping with walking.
I look at the long road in front of me before letting out a few curse words underneath my breath for what I was about to do. I turn towards the car and open the back door. I immediately felt the warmth on my skin.
I close the door before putting on my seat belt. Faye turned towards me with a small smile on her face.
"Didn't your aunt pick you up, or did you miss the bus?"
I shook my head, rubbing my arms with my hands.
"No, she couldn't, because of her work. Besides, my aunt would only bring me one time, and I don't like to take the bus."
"Why not?" Fay asked, looking at me with frown brows.
I shrug my shoulders looking out the window.
"I don't like crowds and loud noises."
I quickly answer, hoping she would believe me.
Jay probably had heard my teeth clattering against each other because he had turned up the heater.
