Kai x Zane

~°•~°•~

Zane pressed himself against the wall and hugged his chest. His cold, metal chest. He would have considered it full, happy, and content, but he could no longer do that. His second love was gone, and he left a piercing black hole of emptiness in the robotic teen's metal heart.

Zane shut his eyes tightly, hoping to wish the horrible, terrible nightmare away. He hesitantly opened them, but he was in his room, alone, sad, and empty. He chocked on sadness as he tried to breath, and winced as the black hole in his heart tightened.

Hoping to wake up this time, the robotic ninja closed his eyes tighter than before. He waited longer and prayed harder. He opened his eyes to-

This wasn't his room.

It wasn't any place Zane knew of. A dull light illuminated the walls of this place, and that was it. A soft and steady push of wind wrapped Zane in its embrace.

"Hello?" Zane called out. "Is anyone here?"

A figure stepped out from beyond the light. He was a medium-sized man with quite the muscle. He had the familiar spiky hair Zane loved at one time.

Zane jumped. "Kai?" He squeaked. "Is that you?"

The man stepped closer into the light. He was a dull green, like the one Cole had once. His amber eyes held wisdom beyond his age, but a deep sparkle of love, happiness, and contentment was hidden behind all that.

"Yes, Zane," Kai said, voice a ghostly wisp of wind. "It's me." He reached out and wrapped his hands around the Ice ninja. He thought Kai would fall right through, but oddly enough he didn't.

Zane hugged back. "I missed you so much," he mumbled in his ear.

"I missed you, too," Kai said, slipping out of the hug. "But you can't stay long. You're not dead, but you will be if you stay." Before Zane could respond, Kai pressed his cold lips against Zane's. It was a short kiss, but it send a spark through Zane's system, causing him to jump.

Kai laughed and snapped his fingers. In an instant, he was gone, and so was the light.

Zane opened his eyes and looked around. He was back in his room, with nothing but himself. But something was different: Zane didn't feel sad, nor lonely. He felt a lovely presence around him, like Kai was still there, watching him.

The titanium ninja pushed himself to his feet and stepped out his room. He couldn't help but smile to himself when he saw a small red wisp in front of him.

I love you, Kai, he thought. That was quite a good goodbye.
