Night falls, and so do I

Jeremy was suddenly texted by his player two, Michael. He instantly smiled and read the message. His smile faded and turned into a look of concern.

Player #1(Michael): Sup Jer, do you know or remember that someone in the name of, "Evan Hansen?" 😕

Player Two(Jeremy): Yeah, I know him. Why? What's up bro? 😅

Player One(Michael): You know that one other kid? The one I smoke pot with? Connor Murphy?

Player Two: You smoke pot? With that douche? And why? 😨

Player One: Well, Connor commented something on Evan's anxiety, and he went too far.

Player Two: Wait for me. Meet me outside your house.

Jeremy was eventually at Michael's house, and of course Connor was there. And another dude that looked like Michael, but different. Uh oh. He was holding bath bombs as though they were weapons. It was this "Jared Kleinman" has always heard about.

"Evan texted me about falling out of a tree." Jared mumbled. Michael, Connor and Jeremy's eyes were definitely wide.

"Why didn't you say that before?!?"

"You didn't ask." The other three just rolled their eyes at Jared's triggering answer. The three looked at each other.

"Who's driving?"  Jeremy asked.

"Dunno. Anyone but Jared." Connor rolled his eyes, which are still full of horrible guilt.

"One two three, not it!" Michael exclaimed, positivity in his voice.

"...not it." Connor smoked a small amount of pot, before throwing it out. He remembered Evan's words, and his own, which will properly be engraved into his mind for the rest of his life.

"DAMMIT!" Jeremy cursed and got into the driver's seat. The other three got into the car, (including the bath bomber) and they made their way to the orchard, worry filling their minds.

Evan heard the serene crunch of grass beneath his shoes. He picked the tallest tree in the orchard. He remembered he used to compete on who would climb that tree the fastest in his childhood, with his friends Jared, Connor (before he became so... different), and he still remembers his dear friend, Phillip. Phillip was always there, attempting to teach Evan how to play piano. But now... he looked at the sky, it was dark. The stars dimming. They knew he was doing this.  He made his climb, one foot after the other, one branch then to another. Until he reached the highest one, his favorite. Evan then recalled all the things Connor has told him, about his problem with anxiety, and having a dad, about making everyone's lives better without him. He believed it was all true. All of them, he believed. Evan felt tears stream down his face. Gripping the branch tightly, before, he felt all his worries wash away. He felt himself fall... down... down... to the ground. Evan closed his eyes. And he did not feel the crash. The pain in his heart hurt more to overpower the pain. There was a stillness in the orchard. The last two things he heard was a car pull up from the driveway, and then a ringing in his ears. He finally blacked out.

"Am I Evan Hansen? Or the loser everyone else believes me to be?"
