I buried my worries beneath the cold earth, hoping they would not rise up to haunt me. But in the middle of the night they found me in my bed, dragging me to the dark place underneath the world where dreams can't speak and demons taunt, as they play twisted games with my soul.
When I woke up the next morning I checked my phone and saw I had a text from Jasper.
Be there to pick you up at 12, we're going to Port Angeles and your father has already said yes, you're coming even if I have to drag you so get dressed.
I looked at the time and saw I had about an hour, so I jumped up to shower quickly. I was careful around the cuts that littered my forearms, deep and angry red, though some had healed and become puffed up white skin. I hated them more than anything but I also loved them, knowing it was better than dealing with the emotional pain all the time. I was sure glad I lived in Forks and loved long sleeve shirts or I wouldn't be able to cover it up in the summer. I grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans and a Motionless In White shirt, before sliding on my oversized black hoodie that used to belong to James. Apparently he had taken it from one of his victims, like he does with all his clothes, but I loved it and he insisted I keep it, loving me in his clothes and his scent. Sadly my father had done my laundry one day when I was in my comatose state and it lost his scent but I suppose that's a good thing now that I'm hanging out with a vampire. I pulled on my combat boots and a beanie before deciding I was ready to go, grabbing my wallet, keys and phone before waiting on the porch for Jasper. I hopped into the car as he pulled up and he grinned.
"You seem more cheerful today."
"Well, I brought some money and we're going to a bookstore so I'm happy, I need new reading material." He looked over at me confused.
"How did you know I was taking you to the bookstore?"
"Dad mentioned it, besides, I would leave you alone and go to the bookstore myself if you didn't want to. Bookstores are my favorite places in the world. Especially those hole in the wall stores with books everywhere, they're not organized and you never know what you're going to find. There was one like that in Phoenix and I made my mom take me there all the time. The shop owner even gave me my own chair in the place, it was reserved for me since I sat and read for hours in the store. She loved me." I chuckled and Jasper was grinning the whole time I was speaking. I wondered if my emotions were back to normal and he was feeling high on my happiness like he said before. It was then that I realized I felt better in his presence, not fake better like yesterday's happiness either, though I suppose that was Jasper influencing my emotions.
Jasper and I spent a good hour shopping for Rosalie, I suppose her birthday was coming up, and I even found a cute dress that I thought she might like, getting it for her and giving it to Jasper to give her from me. I know she doesn't like me but everyone deserves something on their birthday. We had also gone to a few other stores before the bookstore, knowing we would be there for a while. We were. We got tons of books and shared them with each other, finding a couch in the back to sit on and reading together in silence.
"What are you reading now?" I asked as he pulled out a new book.
"A book about the Civil War. I love history, and the Civil War is very interesting to me." He smirked and it made me wonder if he was alive then, maybe when he was human and I grinned, laughing slightly. "What?"
"Nothing, I was just wondering what you would look like in a uniform...you're from Texas right?" He nodded. "A confederate soldiers uniform, captain Hale...no, wait...Major Jasper Hale." I declared, before falling into a fit of giggles, making him laugh along with me.
"Alright, enough teasing me. Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah, just let me put these back." I said, gesturing to a stack of books.
