We had spent the whole day at the fair. It was the best thing I had done in forever. Today was the best day. We were on our way home listening to the radio. I kept replaying our first kiss in my head over and over again. It was so perfect I wish I could replay that moment forever and ever. I was thinking about that moment when I then realized the car stopped. I looked up and saw we were home. We both got out of the car and walked up to the door.

Before we walked inside I stopped Michael, “Thank you so much for today this really meant a lot to me you have no idea.”

He smiled and cupped my face with his hands. “No problem. I’m glad you enjoyed the day. You deserved it.” He smiled and hugged me.

We then entered the house and went straight to the kitchen. We did eat a lot at the fair, but we were both still craving some food. We grabbed some snacks and sat at the kitchen table. I decided to go with an apple as a snack after all the shit food I’ve been eating.

“Hey can I ask you a question? You know if you’re comfortable talking about it?”  Michael asked suddenly out of nowhere which took me by surprise a little.

I stuttered with my words a bit, “I um s-sure what is your question?” He is probably going to ask me something about my homeless life or something on that line.

“How exactly did you become homeless? LIke what happened? I’m sorry if you don’t want to talk about it now but-”

I could tell he was nervous. I have known him quite some time. We did go on a few dates and we did kiss today. I mean I guess I could tell him everything. Well, almost everything, “I let a boy I really liked get to my head and shit just happened.”

“What do you mean” Michael asked taking another bite of his Pringles.

“Well I dated this guy my parents did not like at all. They thought he was a horrible person who was only using me for a little bit then toss me on the streets. Well I guess I should’ve listened to mom and dad. When I felt or thought that me and him were at a good point in our relationship, I decided to rebel and move in with him. I know I shouldn’t of moved in with a guy at such a young age but my parents were on my ass about everything and I couldn’t take it any longer, so I just packed up and moved in with him. At first it was everything I dreamed of, but things changed. He changed and was constantly coming home drunk and wouldn’t come talk to me often unless he wanted sex. Then one night I came home and found him in with another girl and that fucking set me off. So I packed up my things and just left.” I suddenly felt my eyes start to water. Michael went and grabbed me a tissue and I thanked him.

“Wait so that’s how you became homeless?”

“I’m not finished.” I whipped my eyes and began finishing my story, “So then when I went to go live with my parents again they were gone. I thought they maybe went on a vacation or something, but the inside of the house was empty. They moved out. When I moved in with my ex I broke all contact with my parents and family. So I had no idea where they went. I still have no idea to this day. So after that I had no family or friends to turn to for help because all my friends decided to ditch me. I was alone and had no where to go and started finding stuff on the streets to sell and tried making money and that’s how it all happened.” I took a deep breath as I finished my life story.

Michael sat in silence for a moment. I could tell he was in shock a bit.

“Oh my god that’s awful I’m so sorry. That really happened?” He asked with his eyes still wide open. I just nodded my head.

He then stood up from the table. He came around to my side and pulled me up from my seat. He pulled me in for a tight hug. I then felt another tear roll down my cheek. Telling this story brought back all the memories which made me tear up.

“I’m so sorry Kayla holy shit that’s awful.” I then felt his lips press against my head. He then pulled away and cupped my face. He looked right into my eyes and pressed his forehead against mine.

“I promise that nothing that awful will happen to you again. Okay?” Michael whispered. I nodded in agreement and smiled. I really hope Michael reallys means it because I can’t handle getting hurt again. I wrapped my arms around his torso and nuzzled my face into his chest. I heard him lightly laugh. He had such a nice laugh I loved it.

“Well what do we have here?” A woman’s voice spoke. Me and Michael then slowly raised our heads. We turned and face a woman who looked like she was just at work. She had the whole work outfit on and the little brief case thing and everything. This must be Michael’s mother.
