It was now Monday and Michael had left for school. Today was probably going to be a nice calm day. It was around 10:30. I didn’t feel like sitting inside this trailer all day. I would like to get out and stroll around. I’ll be home before Mikey gets home. I threw on the same clothes I wore yesterday, but a different sweater. I didn’t really care about wearing the same clothes two days in a row since I use to wear the same clothes for months straight. I then slipped on my sneakers, grabbed my little bag, and made my way out of the trailer and started walking towards town.
When I got into town, I strolled around and looked through the windows of the stores. I walked into one store called Tilly’s and decided to look around. They had nice stuff in there, but way too expensive. I couldn’t even buy a tiny bracelet they were like $8.00 and they looked like a 3 year old made it. So I decided to leave and continue making my way through town. I suddenly heard someone calling my name. The voice sounded familiar. I knew it wasn’t Michael, but I definitely knew the person. I turned around to see Alexa sitting on the side of the sidewalk. Alexa was a friend of mine when I lived on the streets or when I would come out into town to try and make money. She helped me out alot and we shared rations of food and without her I would of probably died on these streets or in that abandoned house.
“Oh my god! Alexa hi!” I ran to her and gave her a big hug.
“Kayla I haven’t seen you in forever where have you been why don’t you come out here anymore? Did you find another spot to make money at?” She smiled at me.
“Well actually, I found someone who is trying to help me get back on my feet. I’m staying in a trailer in his backyard.” I smiled. She was holding my hands as I told her and listened as if no one was around. Alexa was such a good listener and always wanted to hear what I had to say. I could tell her anything.
“Really!? That’s amazing Kayla I’m so happy for you!” Her face glowed with joy. She seemed so happy for me. She hugged me again, but this time tighter.
“Wow that’s truly great! I’m so happy for you. You’re so young and you really needed that. I hope this person really helps you.”
“Thank you so much Alexa. I wish I could have you live with me in this trailer, but he wouldn’t like that.” I looked down at my feet feeling guilty that I get a chance and Alexa doesn’t. I wish I could help.
“Oh don’t worry about me sweetie you need it more than I do.” She smiled at me placing her hand on my cheek. I smiled and took her hand off my cheek and placing it in mine.
“Here come sit with me.” She pointed to her little blanket laid out on the side of the sidewalk in front of a little coffee shop. I didn’t hesitate to sit with her. People were giving me weird looks like ‘Why am I sitting with a homeless person,’ but I really didn’t give a shit. When I sat down I opened my little bag and found a bag of Doritos that I stole from Michael’s kitchen.
“Here I have these I figured you would like them.” I handed them to Alexa and her eyes grew wide.
“Aha! I fucking love you.” She smiled and kissed the top of my head. She was such a cute little 40 year old. She ripped open the bag and started stuffing her face with food.
“So Kayla, you said the person you live with-”
“I live in his trailer that’s in his backyard. I don’t literally live with him in his house.” I cut her off to correct her before she said anything else.
“Okay. So it’s a he?” She asked shoving another Dorito into her mouth.
“Yea? Why ask?” I questioned.
“Ooooo Kayla you got yourself a little lover.” She shoved my shoulder winking at me.
“No we aren’t dating we are just friends.I think.” I wasn’t really sure where me and Michael were at so I didn’t know how to explain our relationship.
