"Don't go," He whispered softly into her ear, his voice sounding shaky and desperate, as he held her hand tight.
"I won't," She promised him, meaning it. "I'll stay here with you. Forever."
All of a sudden, they were falling. His sapphire blue eyes widened with fear as something was pulling him away from her. Something dark, terrible and evil. She could only watch in terror as the shadows consumed him....
"Ezra!" Sabine sat up in her bunk, struggling to catch her breath. She found herself clutching the blaster next to her, her fist white.
She had had one of those nightmares again. The times she did manage to slumber, those dreams consistently haunted her sleep. Though they made little sense to her, they were absolutely petrifying. Ezra dying... going away. She couldn't bear to imagine.
The girl sighed, knowing that she wouldn't be getting sleep anytime soon. Sliding down the ladder of her bunk bed, she was clad in a pair of black leggings and a loose fitting shirt. They were covered in paint splatters from her past midnight projects.
Sabine hadn't done any art for quite a while now. Mostly because she didn't have any inspiration. Everything was plain, bland and empty without Ezra in her life. Including her heart. This was true, she realized while putting on her old painted leather jacket and combat boots. Everyone was miserable.
As she slipped out the back door of the Ghost, she was greeted by the night sky. She took a moment to stare at the stars that surrounded her.
"Beautiful." She closed her eyes, breathing in the crisp air. It was a shame that no one aside from her was up at this time of night. What was almost ironic was the fact that the time it was most beautiful was when no one was around to appreciate it.
But she wasn't alone. She heard... crying. Coming from behind the crates a few feet away from her. That was a sound that she was used to hearing. Since her cabin was next to Hera's, she could often hear the twi'lek crying, when both of them were supposed to be asleep. She never mentioned it to the captain. Why would she? Everyone was dying a little inside.
As Sabine approached the boxes, she saw the figure of Kateari, Wedge's girlfriend. Her head was in her hands and she was slightly shaking. Despite the coldness of the night, she was only in her neon orange pilot trousers and a simple white tank top. Her beads clacked together slightly as a breeze came in.
"Kat?" Sabine gently placed her hand on the sobbing girl's shoulder who jumped, startled. Wiping off her tears, she turned to stare at the mandalorian who had sneaked up on her.
"Sabine?" Kateari hugged herself, as if trying to generate warmth. "What are you doing up? It's late."
"I could ask you the same question." Sabine got the focus of off herself as she handed the girl a tissue. "Let me guess, relationship problems?"
Kateari nodded as she blew her nose. "Yeah," She admitted after a moment of silence. "Wedge and I have gotten pretty close... Even though, we started officially dating like 2 days ago, the feelings have always been there. The kriffing idiot was extremely reckless during today's mission. We had a fight about it and I kinda stormed out. I mean, I've already lost so many people in my life. I don't want to lose another."
Sabine decided not to pry on the subject and handed her another tissue. "My advice to you? Just enjoy every moment. Live in the present. That's something I didn't do with Ezra..." She trailed off, making her point.
Kateari frowned awkwardly. "I'm really sorry about that." She muttered, scratching the back of her head. "I have heard about what a hero Lieutenant Commander Bridger was. From the leaders and Wedge. Especially Wedge."
Sabine looked away, fighting back tears. "It's fine." She fake smiled. "He'll wake up eventually. You should go to bed now." She said almost sounding cheerful.
Kateari got up and began to walk away. "What about you?" She asked, turning back for a second.
"I'm taking a walk." Sabine answered the young pilot. "Nothing like midnight air to clear up one's mind." Kateari accepted this answer and headed off towards her barracks. As Sabine watched her go, envy and sorrow struck her heart. Kateari didn't know how lucky she truly was.
The mandalorian made a turn towards the medbay. It was locked, like always. But she knew how to get in. Opening the door after a moment of fiddling with the lock, she made a beeline towards Ezra's room. He was sleeping, like always. She needed to be reassured that he was alright.
Sitting down in the chair next to the bed, she clutched Ezra's hand. "Fight this." She whispered. "I truly need you."
Whoo, spent all evening on this. What did you think of Kateari? Don't forget to vote and comment!
