WARNING!!! LOTTSA FLUFF AHEAD
"He's awake?" Hera sputtered in surprise, her face breaking into a smile for the first time in months. Pure joy and elatedness filled her, like all of her worries were let go all at once.
Kanan didn't need to be told twice. He bolted out of the Ghost, and started to sprint as fast as he could towards the medbay. By now he had memorized the path, and didn't even need the force to guide him. The father had come almost as many times as Sabine did to visit Ezra.
His heart leaped for joy when he felt his padawan's force signature for the first time in what seemed like forever. Their bond had been strained over the past few months, and that had deeply worried Kanan, making him fear that his boy was really lost forever. But now this was happening. The force was incredibly unpredictable and impossible to completely understand.
Forcing his way through the door of the hospital, he pushed past many droids and medics working there, not bothering to say excuse me. He was desperate to see his son. Well, not that he could actually see him...
LOL had to put that in there
Ezra had been onto his fifth glass of water (his thirst hadn't gone away yet) when the door slid open to reveal Kanan, out of breath from running. The boy dropped his cup to the floor in surprise, it shattering to pieces. Doctor Shanu quickly swept it up with the brush nearby.
"Ezra?" Kanan approached the young boy, taking off his mask. Under his blind eyes were dark circles, probably from sleep deprivation. His beard had grown significantly longer, like it hadn't been cut in a while. Overall, he looked ten years older from the last time Ezra had seen him. But he was still Kanan, his master and father. This was all real.
Ezra choked up, tears streaming down his cheeks and falling onto his breathing mask. His vision blurred, and the young Jedi grasped Kanan and embraced him, making sure that he was actually there. Sobbing into his father's chest, he was full of emotions. After all this pain, suffering, and heartbreak, he was finally home.
Kanan felt two arms wrap around him. Ezra's hand were trembling, as if he was frightened. The Jedi Master became vaguely aware of his shirt getting wet. He hugged back, as tears of his own started to fall. "I got you, buddy." He reassured his son, kissing him on the top of his head.
Doctor Shanu took the cue that it was time for her to leave and get the medical reports. As she walked out of the room, she literally ran into Hera.
"How is he?" Hera questioned frantically, recognizing Doctor Shanu as the head of Ezra's medical situation. She had had talks with this woman many times about her son's condition.
"Ma'am," the miralian doctor placed a hand on the twi'lek's shoulder. "Can I just tell you how much of a living medical miracle Mr. Ezra Bridger is? Many people in my profession would have forced you to let him go by now. He has a long road to full recovery, but I do believe that we have much to hope for now."
The mother breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, thank you for everything." She grinned before leaving the doctor and entering the hospital ward. The sight she was greeted by absolutely warmed her heart. Ezra was awake like they said, and leaning against his father figure for comfort. Both of the young men were crying tears of what was probably joy, but at the same time sadness.
She approached the two of them, and tucked a strand of overgrown hair behind Ezra's hair. "Sweetie," She murmured, hugging her boy. "We've all missed you so much... If only Sabine was here..."
Ezra nodded, understanding. Sabine had told him that she would be on Mandalore. He wondered how long he would have to wait until he could see the love of his life again. Why did their lives have to be so utterly crappy?
His thoughts were interrupted by booming, familiar voices coming from the corridor outside.
"What do you mean I can't come into this room?"
*Beep, Beep!!*
"I'm sorry, sir. Family of the young man only-"
"Karablast, what do you mean 'family only'? I'm like his kriffing older brother!"
Ezra's face brightened. It was Zeb and Chopper! He was so excited to see them. He never knew that he could've missed that old astromech.
"Sir, please leave before- ahhhhhhhhh!!!! Stop it, you stupid droid!"
Hera and Ezra looked at each other knowingly. Hera walked over to the door and hit the open button. There, was a medic (who looked like he had recently been shocked with his hair sticking out everywhere) fending off an angry Chopper with a clipboard. Zeb was standing by, shouting encouraging words at the droid. "Get'im Chop! Get'im!"
Ezra managed a laugh, even though his lungs burned when he did so. Kanan raised his eyebrows, smiling slightly. Hera on the other hand, was not so amused.
"Garazeb Orellios! C1-10P!" She angrily shouted their real names. "Just what do you think you're doing?"
Both the droid and lasat froze in place. The medic, who by now was on the ground, scrambled up to his feet.
"Err, Captain Syndulla," The man formally addressed the twi'lek, while trying to straighten out his labcoat and look professional. "These two are trying to invade this private ward. They have proved to be very resistant to all my pleas. Could you-"
"No, thank you, sir. That will be just fine. These two are part of my crew." Hera interrupted the man. Glaring at Zeb and Chopper, she barked, "You two, get in here. NOW!"
The pair didn't waste any time scrambling into the room. By now, Ezra was laughing and smiling so much that his ribs felt like they were going to break again, and his breathing mask was at risk of falling off.
"Kid!" Zeb ruffled his younger brother's hair. "Man, have we missed you around here. Don't ever scare us like that again." He almost threatened the injured boy. Chopper warbled happily, wheeling circles around the bed and all the machines.
Hera looked on happily at her family- well almost all her family. This reunion wouldn't be complete without Sabine there. She knew that Ezra would be heartbroken without the Mandalorian next to him soon.
But for now, they had to look to the horizon and live in the presence. Ezra had a long road to recovery, but for now he was awake and happy. Everything was starting to look up...
Phew! That one was hard to write! Like I said a lotta fluff!! what did you guys think of it?
Also, sorry for no update yesterday. My GENIUS french teacher, out of the blue, gave us a test on stuff we barely know and I crammed in studying. Most of the other kids didnt study though. And probably bombed the test. Ahh, the intelligence of my fellow 13 year olds.
