No Pov ——- Ten years ago ——- 7 year old Lance
"Mama Mama! Look!" A young boy with shining blue eyes and fair tan skin sprinted into the house. His hair a mess from the day's activities. He grinned as he ran to his mama, giggling uncontrollably.
"What is it, Amor?" The woman in question, smiled down at her son, her life, her everything.
"Look! Look!" As he held out his tiny hands, revealing a green wiggling caterpillar. The woman gasped and laughed as she bent down to her son, placing her hand under his.
"Isn't it beautiful?" She whispered, her eyes kind and gentle.
"Beautiful? But isn't it just a bug?"
"Of course not, their alive just like us, they live to become something great; something beautiful, just like you."
"I'm not beautiful! I'm handsome!" He pouted.
"Yes yes, now go put it back, mi amor. Maybe one day you'll see it again but as a butterfly?"She patted her son on the head, before returning to the kitchen.
"Ok Mama!" As he raced from the room. The woman smiled after him. Her life.
She didn't know her life was going to be ripped out of her hands so soon.Five years ago ——- 12 year old Lance
"Lance Lance! Where are you?" The night was cold as the wind blew, ruffling the woman's hair. The sent of salt was heavy in the air as waves crashed nearby. The stars shone brightly ahead, stretching far and wide. The unpolluted air was crisp and soft as the woman ran down the beach, a jacket wrapped around her tightly.
"Lance! Mijo! Mi amor!" She shouted. When she finally found him, the scene took her breathe away. Lance sat on a smooth rock, looking out into the vast oceans, his eyes shone with love and dedication, as the stars lit up his face. He turned to her the wind also blowing his short soft hair around.
"Mama!" He quickly ran to her.
"Lance!" She embraced him in her arms, a smile graced her lips.
"Mama! I'm going to be out there one day! I'm going to be out there! I'm going to fly, travel the stars, and discover the world. I'm going to make you proud!" He exclaimed, pointing out into the night sky.
"You've already made me proud." She sighed, happily.6 months ago ——- 16 year old Lance
"I'm so sorry Mrs. McClain, but unfortunately your son has gone missing due to unknown circumstances." She knew she should have never opened the door.
——-Lance Pov
I wallowed in my happy moments, moments I had with my mom. I remembered the first time I decided to go to the Garrison: to fly. I know my mom was heartbroken when she figured out I had to live so far away. But I knew she wanted me to chase my dreams. I wonder how she feels now.
I stalked around in the dark emptiness, it wasn't to cold, or to hot. It wasn't to cramped, or to vast. It was nothing. If this was death, I don't like it. I thought I would be better off dead. I thought of death as welcoming. Something that was going to set me free. But now that I'm here, it was nothing like what I had imagined. I-I don't like this. "I DON'T LIKE THIS!" I screamed into the hollowness. "I don't like this at all." I whimpered. I sat on the floor of this place, my prison, and tucked my legs into my chest, wrapping my arms around them. "If this is death, so be it. But I don't like this. I-I'm scared. I'm really scared. Shiro? Keith? Pidge? Hunk? Anyone? I'm scared, guys. Please, help me. I don't want to die." Not like this anyway.——-Keith
I hated needles. I hated doctors, I hated everything to do with the medical world. But I had to do this. No matter how much I hated Lance, I knew I had to save him. He got on my nerve yes, but he also knew when to get me to quit. He knew when to get everyone to quit. When Pidge was staying up to long, he knew when to get them to quit. When Hunk was baking just a little to much, he knew when to get him to quit. When Shiro and Allura worked way to hard, he knew when to get them to quit. When Coran built himself into trouble, he knew when to get him to quit. As much as I hate to admit it, Lance was a valuable team member, a valuable family member, and I'd be damned if I couldn't save him.
"Is he going to be okay?" I asked, rubbing my sore arm.
"Oh he'll be okay once the cryopods are back up and running. Speaking of the cryopods, how are they looking so far Number five?"
"They'll be back online soon." Pidge answered as their eyes rested on Lance's limb form. Just then the machines started beeping erratically.
"Coran! What's going on?" Shiro yelled, gripping Lance's arm with one hand.
"I don't know! He was stable just a minute ago!" He shouted running to, what looked like a computer.
"Buddy! Lance, come on, snap out of it!" Hunk encouraged.
"Lance! Your going to be ok! Please, I can't lose you too." Pidge sobbed, holding his hand in their's
Soon everyone was trying to say something, even me.
"Idiot! Calm down!" I demanded. I didn't know what else to say.
Eventually, his heart rate returned to normal.
"What happened?" Hunk asked.
"I don't know Number two." Coran mumbled, pressing a few buttons.
"He heard us." Pidge whispered.
"What?" I turned to her.
"He heard us." They repeated, drying their eyes.
"He must have heard us." She insisted. And for some odd, reason I believe he did.——-Notes
