"...I'm sorry." Lance whispered. "I don't know why, but I am. I grew up being the middle child and I'm used to having to give up my time with my parents to my older or younger siblings. This means I...never knew how to ask for help...and I just...miss them so much..." Lance spoke, voice soft and quiet. "And I was always being outshined. Leo was good at soccer and Rosie was the smartest person I've ever met. And I figured I'd find my thing soon too right? But...it looks like I never did. Then it got so much worst at the garrison. There was so many stars there and I was...nothing compare to them..."
"Oh Lance..." Shiro patted his back, looking at him with reassurance. "You know, I wasn't the star student in my class either. I was just like you. I worked hard and I learned. I told myself that if I can do it than do it."
"Shiro..."
"You know Lance. Everyone here has their thing. You're our sharpshooter, and we wouldn't give you up for anyone else." Allura smiled. "...and I know my...attitude towards you haven't been the best...and you have no reason to ever forgive me for what I said and did. Lance, I'm so sorry but I'm willing to change if you give me-us a second chance."
Lance sat stunned, not believing what he was hearing.
"She's right you know. I know we haven't been the best team or teammate towards you and maybe it's due to the fact you do so much for us that we don't want to acknowledge because of stupid ego or pride. But we want to try again. And we don't care if it years to regain your trust in us again." Shiro added.
"Yeah Lance! You're an amazing sharpshooter, an awesome best friend, and the best bro I could ask for!" Hunk wrapped Lance in the biggest hug he could muster while awkwardly seated on Lance's hospital bed. Pidge vigorously shook their head in agreement, wedging themselves inbetween the two.
"Lance, you're like a son to me. You smile and laugh and all of a sudden I feel like I'm at home on Altea again." Coran wiped away a tear. "With my son...and..."
"Oh Coran." Allura wrapped her arms around him.
"We all miss Altea. I wish you all had the chance to see it. It was beautiful there." Allura whispered.
"...Coran. If it helps, I'll be the best second son you've ever had." Lance smiled, brightly.
"Lance...that'll mean everything to me. And I'm so sorry for hurting you. I never meant to. But I can see the damage has been done. I can never take back the wrong I did to you but I can sure try to make it up one day."
"It's ok Coran. I forgive you. I forgive all of you."
"But Lance-"
"I might not be on earth or even near it, but I see now that that doesn't mean I'm alone. I'm sorry-" Keith cut him off.
"No! Don't apologize! We're the ones that sorry. We're the ones who hurt you! We said things to you that no one should ever hear and I'm...I'm sorry too." Keith yelled. His voice started strong but ended quiet and weak.
"We never meant...I never meant to hurt you." His eyes were downcast.
"...Guys..."
"It's true Lance. I...was so blinded by my own ego and pride I never realized all the good things you did for me. I tossed you aside without a second thought. I hope you can forgive me." Pidge mumbled. Lance was silent for a bit.
"I...ok...I'll be honest. It might take me a while to...trust you again, fully. But...if you're willing... to try again this team-"
"Yes! Or course!" They shouted. Lance sat, wide eyed at the response before bursting out laughing. He laughed to hard tears formed in his eyes and his body shook from the force. Soon, everyone else was joining in. They didn't know why, something about Lance's smile made them feel...warm inside. They laughed and laughed, forgetting the stress of being paladins, forgetting the stress of saving the universe, forgetting the stress of...everything. And it was in that moment the fog that hovered over them, clouding them, was lifted. They enjoyed the moment they had together...as a team, as a family.

And Lance? He felt something he thought he'd never feel again. He felt whole. He felt complete.

Everything was no longer gray.

*The End*
