My eyes are still in my face, they still are brown, but they have no use for me now. When I was 12 years old I lost all my sight forever.
It happened when I was in a car accident. My Dad was driving while my Mom was in the passenger seat. I even remember my older sister right next to me. It was like any other day. I didn't expect my entire life to change the way that it did.
In the middle of the day a drunk driver drove right into us. He rammed us off the road and we rolled and tumbled off of the street and into the woods. I don't remember anything after that, but when I woke up in the hospital I couldn't see. It was just darkness.
I didn't just lose my sight that day, but my Mom, Dad, and sister. My Dad died right when the truck hit us. My Mom died by a tree from the woods plunging into her neck, and my sister died on the way to the hospital.
For some reason I lived. Although life was more than difficult for me after that accident. Glass from the crash went straight into my face. I had cuts on my face but the glass that got into my eyes penetrated, and damaged my corneal. My corneal is supposed to protect my eye. Its a barrier against dirt, germs, and anything that can damage your eye. But in my case, my corneal is scarred. I have permanent visual impairment. So in other words I'm blind.
I lost one sense, I gained so much more. My hearing is sharper, I can feel and touch the vibration of things. I've learned to live my life without my eyes. But I am listed to have a cornea transplant in a year or so, but they have to find me the right donor. Once that happens I'll be able to see again.
I haven't seen anything for over 11 years but today for the first time. I saw something. I saw her.

I'm sitting in a bakery drinking coffee when the bell on the door went off. That means someone is coming in. I turn towards the sound and a flash of color and beauty takes my vision. It lasted for a solid three seconds. For someone who's been blind for so long that's almost a lifetime to be able to see again.
For those three seconds I saw sunlight lightening up what must have been an angel. Her fragrance overtook my nose. Her skin glowing and she put everything in slow motion. I haven't seen a person for years but I'm more than grateful to have her be the first thing I've seen.
My doctor told me I'd never be able to see again, but how does that relate to what I just saw? I've saw something before but I thought it was a one time thing. Is it my imagination? I don't even care I must know her.
I grab my shades and place them on my face, and I get my white cane. I get up and I follow her scent. I find myself standing in front of a booth and I can hear her breathing.
"Hi, do you happen to have some sugar for my coffee?" I speak.
"Yeah it's right in front of you." She speaks back.
"Could you be more specific?" I chuckle.
"What are you blind are somethi-?" She asks then stops when she actually realizes I am.
"Uh, yeah." I answer.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Here you go." She hands me the sugar.
"Are you here alone?" I ask her.
