Chapter 15~

Alix chuckles lightly and slaps my feet, making them tap together,” I know that Kevin, like the entire world knows that. It’s pretty obvious.” I stare at Alix baffled by his response.

“Are you serious?!” My face flushes in red and I roll my lips in slightly. Hard to believe everyone knows. I thought I was fooling someone.

“So wait, what happened to Heidi?” I ask out of curiosity, pouring more water into my cup.

“Turns out she finally left that Seth guy. He had her cuffed to a bed so she couldn’t come for you. I really feel bad for the poor girl, but then again, I feel bad for Seth too. He had a looker and went insane, ruining it for himself.” Alix shakes his head in disgust.  I on the other hand, glare at him upset with the words that fell from his lips. Really? After what I just said?

“Um...Alix, you have a girlfriend,” I sneer. Alix turns and plops on the couch.

“I know, oh, Heidi said she wanted to see you when you came to. She said you’ll find her over by the fountain where you met.”  I look at the clock, only 9:00am. I run to my room, to quickly pull on some worn sneakers and a sweat shirt. I then shift and head for the front door.

“Kevin, wait, where are you going? The doctor said you shouldn’t be driving! Kevin!” Alix shouts after me. I slam the door and continue down the stairs and out of the building as though it’s collapsing. Dizziness grows in my head as I briefly lose my balance. Holding my head in hand, a pain takes over. I fight the pain in need of seeing Heidi again. I slip into the car and start the engine. Resting my head on the steering wheel, attempting to remember where this damn park is, Alix bursts through the entrance of the building.

“Kevin! You can’t be driving, where are you even trying to go?” he breathes, leaning on the door of the car. I don’t look at him, I’m angry? At him.

“I-I have to go see Heidi, but I don’t remember where,” I mumble.  Alix pulls the door open and pushes me into the passenger’s side,” I’ll drive you dude. You can’t just get up and leave. It’s not exactly safe,” Alix protests. I roll my eyes and sink back in my seat.

-Heidi-

I stare at the music note on her left wrist then, the semi-colon on the right as silence fell upon us. This girl is breath taking. Her blond hair falls around her shoulders perfectly, with soft curls and blue ends.  Her face is shaped nicely and dimple piercings in her cheeks, making her smile all the more adorable.  A sleeve of tattoos crawled up her arm. A pink tulip, two pedals slipped off, catches my eye on her upper arm. Under it, on a banner, it says, “Remember the fallen.”  I clear my throat awkwardly and smile one more time.

“So what was your name again? I didn’t quite catch it,” I giggle, tucking my hair under my hair behind my ear.

“Jade!” Her lips curl into a warm smile as the street lamps assist in lamination. Jade, a very nice name.

“Jade, this is none of my business, but I have to know. The tulip ‘on your upper arm that says,’ remember the fallen’ with the two pedals under it, what does it resemble?” I ask, soon regretting it. Jade rests her hand over top and tears pool in her eyes.

“Two of my friends…when I was younger they died. I promised them that I’d remember them forever. This is my way of remembrance,” Jade mumbles. I feel immediate guilt and rest my hand on her knee.

“Sorry if I made you upset. I didn’t intend on it,” I murmur. Jade wipes at the trickling tears and returns to her bubbly self.  Suddenly, the headlights of a car burn our eyes. A slick black car parks and a slender figure runs out at me.

“Heidi, oh my god! I’m so happy to see you!” Kevin breathes, swooping me into his arms for a tight hug. I my eyes widen at his sudden appearance, but slip them closed and nuzzle his neck.

“You’re okay! I was so worried about you and I thought you might not wake up.” I speak into his neck, tears stinging my eyes. Kevin’s warm breath heats my head that is being attacked by the fast approaching “winter” air. Jade mumbles a few short words, but I ignore her. Holding him in my arms, here and now, is almost like a dream come true…almost. I admit it, I love him. The man before me, Kevin McCullough has my heart.

I glance upward to meet Kevin’s gaze, his eyes glistening in the moonlight.

“I heard what happened to you, Seth and I. I wish I was there to support you. Now you’re back on the streets and alone-“

“Kevin, its fine, I’m fine. I’m more concerned about you. When did you wake up? Did you come alone?” I question, releasing him and sitting him down on the fountain.

“He’s defiantly not alone,” Alix chuckles climbing about of the driver’s seat. I smile warmly and take my spot next to Jade.

“Jade, this is Kevin. Kevin, this is Jade,” I turn and introduce the two. Kevin stretches his arm in front of me awkwardly and glares at Jade as though he is mad or upset with her.

“Pleased to met you,” Jade greets kindly, shaking Kevin’s hand. Kevin nods and recoils quickly. I stare at him, confused by his reaction and shift my attention back to Jade.

“I’m sorry, he’s my friend and he was injured and out for a few days. I didn’t forget you were here, nor did I mean to ignore you,” I assure.  Jade swats her hand at the thought and her lips curl.

“So Jade, what are you doing here in America, aren’t you homesick?” I ask shooing Kevin who is rubbing my arm, attempting at my attention.

“I’m just visiting family. Being homesick is not a problem anyway. I travel a lot and tend to enjoy being away. But my cousin is expecting and I want to be here for the shower!” Jade fumbles with her fingers and knots her fingers in her hair.

“Kevin, its one in the morning, we need to go. Plus Heidi looks busy,” Alix calls impatiently, from the car.

“Heidi, I need to talk to you, it’s really important,” Kevin says urgently, nudging my shoulder. Jade whips out her phone with it vibrating in her pocket and answers.

“Oh my gosh, I had no idea it was so late! I have to go Heidi, nice meeting you, bye!” Jade sighs with her phone pressed to her ear and darts away. Terribly convenient.  Kevin tugs at my sweater as I collect my things and load them into the trunk. Alix return s to the driver’s seat and Kevin and I sit in the back.

“So I’m staying with you tonight?” I laugh, rubbing my right temple. Kevin laughs silently and places his hand on top of mine. My cheeks burn, as do his, when I catch his eyes with mine once more.

Kevin pulls his shirt off and I am unable to keep my eyes from dancing over his skin. He sits down next to me and ruffles his hair for bed.

“So, what is it you need to tell me that is ever so important?” I ask, shifting to face him. Kevin sighs heavily and sits on his legs.

“Heidi, I honestly don’t know how to begin. Since we met, a few months have gone by and I’ve really grown to like you. You’re a really nice person and you’re also weird and goofy. You are absolutely adorable, like, I could go on about your looks forever. Anyway, whenever I see you, I imagine our lips pressed together passionately. I’m happy we’re here and alone so I can tell you how special you truly are to me.  My head spins and my heart races. My breath catches and I have so many dreams. I guess what I’m trying to say is, Heidi Collins, I love you.”
