Thirty-eight

The ambulance finally gets to where Nicole is laying in the street.

Connie then rushes outside to see what is going on to see Nicole lying there with a broken leg not moving.

"Oh my Godness! Oh, my baby!" She says rushing towards her daughter.

"What happened! What happened! What happened!" Connie screams through tears.

""She just walked into the street." The frightened girl says.

"It was a hit-and-run, ma'am." The police officer says.

"Oh, no!" Connie cries.

"Is she dying?" She asks the paramedic.

"we're doing everything we can." He says.

"Oh, God. Okay. You got to...we got to get her to the lawn over there while she's still with us." Connie tells the paramedics pointing to Mike and Nel's front lawn.

"No, we need to take her in for-"

"No! If you can't help me, then get out of the goddamn way!" She yells pushing the paramedics away.

The frightened girl watches at Connie struggles to get the paramedics off of Nicole.

"Just let us-"

"No!" Connie yells pushing the paramedic off of her.

She then lifts Nicole up and drags her over to Mike and Nel's front lawn, so if Nicole dies her spirit can be trapped in the house.

"Nikki, come on. We gotta get you home with all your friends." She whispers to Nicole.

"Come on, Honey. We're almost there." Connie says sobbing.

"Just stay with me, Nikki. Look, just a few more feet. Okay, oh, my God. Nikki!" She yells.

Connie then looks down at Nicole's now lifeless body as she was too late.

Nicole died before Connie could get her to Mike and Nel's front lawn.

She lays her head down on top of Nicole's head holding her body in her arm while she still can before the paramedics come and take her away.

Angelica walks into the third floor of the nursing home and down to her mothers room.

She looks into her mothers room and smile, but is overcome with sadness when she sees her mother hooked up to all these machines.

Angelica sits down next to her mother and holds her hand.

"Oh, Mother, you always had the most beautiful hands. What have they done to you?" She says with tears falling down her cheeks.

She looks at her with that large tube coming out of her mouth as she can't believe this is how her mother has to live to stay alive.

It's just not right for her.

"This is my fault. I wasn't there for you. I'm so sorry." She says starting to cry.

Angelica continues to hold her hand and then makes a bold decision.

A decision her siblings couldn't bring themselves to do.

Pull the plug and let her mother go.

Angelica looks at the door and the back at her mother.

She leans forward and disconnects the tube from the other tube in her mouth and lets nature take its course.

Angelica watches as her mother dies and starts to cry and gives her lifeless body a kiss.

Her mothers spirit them appears behind her watching over her.

"Come with me, baby." She yells her daughter.

"I want to, but I can't, Mother. I can't." She say sobbing.

Mitch sits in his bed still reading his bed while the doorbell continuously ringing with someone knocking at the door.

"Goddamn it, Mike! I want my money!" Rick yells from the other side of the door.

"I am not leaving here until I have my thousand dollars!"

Mitch walks down the stairs and gets closer to the door to see what's going on.

"Hello? Mike Grassi!"

Mitch looks through the peep hole at a very angry Rick.

He then back away and goes to call his dad.

"Mike Grassi!" He repeatedly says.

"Screw you! You owe me!" He yells at the door.

Trick-or-treaters then come up to the door as Rick scares them away throwing candy at them.

Mike finally answers the phone for Mitch.

"Hey, son."

"Dad, there's some freaky dude at the door screaming about money. I think he might be one of your patients. I don't know. Should I call the cops?" Mitch asks frightened.

"No. No. Just keep the door closed. Is it locked?" Mike asks.

"Yeah."

"Okay, we're on our way home right now. Mitch, just keep the door locked." Mike explains then hangs up.

Mitch continues to back away from the door frightened at what Rick might do.

"I know you're in there. Is that your son?" Rick says looking through the peep hole.

As Mitch backs up farther from the door, the rubber suit man appears behind him watching him.

Twenty minutes later

Mike and Nel pull up quickly to the house and run inside as they hear the sound of the alarm going off.

"Mitch! Mitch!" Mike yells through the house.

"Mitch!" Nel yells.

Nel then runs upstairs to see where her son is while Mike searches the main floor.

"Mike! He's not here!" Nel yells down the stairs.

"Call his cellphone." Mike says.

Then there's a knock at the front door taking his attention away from finding Mitch at the moment.

He opens it to see Isabel standing there with dry blood coming from her nose and two black eyes and messy hair.

She gives him an evil smile as Mike slams the door in her face.
