Brooklyn flinched in surprise when she realised the man was right in front of her, waving his hand in front of her face. "Oh god sorry, did I zone out for long? Did I miss anything? Are they asking me to lea-" she was cut off by a chuckle; a chuckle that made her want to join in and chuckle with him. "Woah calm down. You were amazing, you'll definitely get in! Oh and no they haven't asked you to leave." He chuckled again. That bloody chuckle. "I'm Daveed Diggs, by the way" he finished with a welcoming smile on his face, waiting for Brooklyn to introduce herself.
However Brooklyn hadn't realised this, and she instead just smiled and nodded, causing a smirk to grow on Daveed's face.
"And you are...." He questioned, trying to control his snickers at Brooklyn's confused facial expression.
Brooklyn's eyes immediately widened and her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment. "Oh! Um... I'm Brooklyn Adams.... crap sorry! I swear I'm never like this... well actually that's not completely true but-" her apology was silenced by Daveed cutting her off with a sympathetic smile on his face. "Hey it's ok. I was just like you on my first day, and look at me now" He said as he gestured to himself in a smug manner, making Brooklyn giggle, which made David's smile grow slightly. He started to walk off into the wings when he turned around and said to her "Oh, and by the way, you're adorable when you get nervous.", before making his way to his dressing room. On his way there he reflected on what had just happened. Was him calling her adorable too much? Did he scare her off? What he did know was that in the ten minutes that he was around Brooklyn, he grew fond of her and he hoped to see more of her.Brooklyn however, froze in confusion on the stage. Did he really mean that? Or was he just being nice? She was brought back to reality by someone chuckling at her state from the stalls. She began to slouch, thinking that the cast didn't like her and that her chances of joining them are very slim.
"Okay! So Brooklyn we'll get back to you as soon as we can, thank you for coming." Lin said as Brooklyn began to gather her belongings, not wanting to disrupt rehearsals any longer. "Thank you for having me!" Brooklyn replied as she left the theatre.
On her way home, she couldn't get her mind off of the encounter she had with Daveed. It was probably obvious that she likes him, but doubted that he liked her. Besides, she wasn't sure if she was ready for commitment again after Colin. Sure it was over a year ago, but he was her first love, and she didn't want to get into another relationship until she was completely over him. She was over him, wasn't she?
Of course she was. She doesn't deserve to be assaulted and mistreated; nobody does. When she got home, she put a ready meal in the oven and sat on her sofa, thinking about the day's events and what the future may hold....until she could smell burning.
She ran to her kitchen and groaned in embarrassment, how could she forget about her dinner?! She opened the oven door, not noticing the mass amount of smoke or bothering to put on oven gloves, and got the meal out of the oven as quickly as she could, not feeling the pain from the heat until she placed the, now burnt, meal on her counter.
"Shit!!!" She cried as she put her hand under cold water, which only made it hurt more. This was interrupted when the smoke alarm began blaring through the apartment, most likely waking up everyone in her building. She jumped up to reach it with a fly swat until she realised she was too short. Coming up with a solution, Brooklyn ran out of her apartment, leaving the door open, and banged on Anthony and Jasmine's door.
"Ant! Jazz! Please open the door! I'm too short to turn off the smoke alarm!! Please help m-"
"Brooklyn?" A voice interrupted her. She turned around to see Daveed walking up the stairs to her floor; perfect. "Daveed get over here! Quick!" She pleaded and ran into her apartment. Daveed quickened his pace as he heard the smoke alarm and he followed Brooklyn into her apartment.
The apartment was full of smoke from the oven and it was difficult to see clearly. He instantly opened all of her windows and turned off the oven and the tap before dealing with the smoke alarm. After a couple of attempts, the smoke alarm stopped blaring and the smoke was beginning to clear up, allowing him to properly see Brooklyn.
"Are you ok? You kind of scared me" He asked with a slight chuckle as he wrapped her in a hug. He didn't want to show his feelings straight away, but right now he didn't care. He only cared about Brooklyn. "Yeah I'm fine. Just a bit surprised, that's all. I probably should've figured out how to use the oven." she replied. She was lucky that Daveed was there, otherwise she would've been stuck with a blaring smoke alarm for at least another half hour. As they pulled away from the embrace, Daveed noticed a mark, beginning to blister on Brooklyn's hand. "Brooklyn your hand! What happened?" He asked with concern laced in his voice. She moved her hand away before he could examine it "Oh nothing, just an..um.......rash. I'm fine Daveed, really" she replied hastily, instantly feeling bad for lying to him. But he was a soon to be broadway actor, he didn't need a "nobody" like Brooklyn in his life who would just make everything stressful. Yes; a nobody. That is the one part of that night that Brooklyn will never be able to forget. But Daveed did need her. She made his smile reach his eyes for once and he didn't want that to go away. After begging her to call him when she found out about the role, Daveed left, not realising that tonight's events occurred because Brooklyn was daydreaming about him. What was he doing to her?
