Keeping Options Open

It had been a week since the day Chad and Taylor announced that they had broken up, the same day that Chad came out to Troy.

A lot had happened that day.

The day after it all happened, a Saturday, Gabriella had texted Troy, asking wether or not he had talked to Chad. He replied with a simple 'yes', not wanting to out his fiend, and they left it at that.

Though Gabriella wished she knew what exactly had happened, she was mainly happy that Chad had someone to talk to about whatever it was. He was a sweet guy, and deserved some support like Taylor had. Obviously he had always had the guys, but sports guys especially were so secretive with their emotions. Gabriella didn't understand it. (A/N: You and me both sis.)

Now it was the Friday of the following week. Ryan was lounging in his room with Kelsey and one of the new drama kids, a red headed sophomore named Tyler who had recently moved here from Texas.

"Ty you have Ms. Kylag right?" Ryan asked nonchalantly, glancing over to the right to catch Tyler nodding. Kelsey snorted, "Does she still have that weird frog stuffed animal in her room? And smell like old mints?" Tyler laughed, nodding.

They were talking about homework, fashion, basically anything other then the play. They had already had too much of that with Sharpay, and it felt nice to hangout outside of school. Kelsey and Ryan did this often, but this was Tyler's first time joining them. He was working lighting on the play and Kelsey was directing, along with Ryan being one of the main characters, so they saw lots of each other already.

Ryan shivered, "Something about her always gave me the creeps." He admitted, and Kelsey nodded enthusiastically in agreement, causing the mini top hat that sat atop her brown hair to slip off and land on Ryan's bed. The girl was lying here on her belly, bare feet kicking in the air as she absentmindedly flipped through one of the old nickelodeon magazines that the trio had dug up in the Evans' attic.

"I have no idea what you guys means, Ms. Kyag is great!" Tyler insisted. He was sprawled out on a bean bag that leant against the wall opposite of the door. He threw sone skittles in his mouth before going back to his own Nickelodeon magazine.

Ryan spun around in his chair, a shiny plastic thing intended for sitting at a vanity, but instead he was sitting at the large, white, wooden desk located against the wall opposite of the bed.

"Yeah, she's great! If you enjoy creepy stares and the smell of an old folks home while you do Maths." He rolled his eyes, turning back to his homework that laid on the desk. Sure it was Friday, but Sharpay had planned a weekend booked completely with play rehearsals, not last minute homework.

"Ok, you have a valid point there." Tyler admitted, and Ryan smiled at him in the small mirror that rested to his right.

Suddenly Kelsey slammed her magazine down on the bed, declaring loudly, "I'm BORED." Ryan rolled his eyes again. Though she was no Sharpay, Kelsey could still be quite the drama queen if you got to know her.

"Sorry, Kels, but I need to do this before Monday."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. At least tell Tyler and I all about your little crush while you do it." Ryan could practically hear the smirk on the brunettes face.

The blond felt himself blush as Tyler excitedly joined the girls' begging, and reluctantly he gave in.

"Fine, fine, I'll bite." He huffed out in a faux annoyed tone, trying to suppress a smile. "By for the record, it's less of a crush and more of- some unresolved feelings."

Behind him, Kelsey scoffed, "Isn't that exactly what a crush is?" Ryan rolled his eyes,

"Oh, shut up."

  Tyler snickered.

And so Ryan began to talk about the curly-haired WildCat known as Chad Danforth. He started by quoting funny things Chad had said when they were hanging out, which led to him talking about how much he loved the boys sense of humor, and then all the other things he adored about him.

That hair. Wild and perfect at the same time. Always bouncing around with the basketball player. His energy, how fidgety he got when he was excited- like a little kid in a candy store.

And those eyes. Beautiful amber brown orbs that lit up in the light. Fuck whoever started the idea that brown eyes were all boring and the same, because these? They were spectacular.

By the time Ryan had finished rambling on about his infatuation with his co-star, he had already finished his homework and was now sat at the end of his bed, Tyler and Kelsey listening intently.

"Dude," Tyler began once his friend had stopped his chatter, "You have to ask him out." Kelsey nodded enthusiastically in agreement, and Ryan sighed.

"He's great guys - amazing even - but he's also straight." Tyler seemed to accept this, nodding and turning back to his magazine. Kelsey, however, was much harder to convince.

"Ry, remember what I said in the car in Friday?" Ryan rolled his eyes, opening his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by the small girl already talking again. "Listen. I know you're scared and I'm not gonna force you to do anything, but I'm just saying... you shouldn't completely shut it down just yet, ok? He might surprise you."

Ryan furrowed his eyes brows at his friend, "Did you talk to him, Nielsen?"

The girl grinned mischievously, turning back to her abandoned magazine. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Ryan knew she was probably just kidding, but he couldn't shake off the feeling he had in his gut. Maybe, just maybe, he would keep the option open.

Just for Kelsey's sake, of course.

A/N: Okay soooo, I went back to this chapter like 10 times since the last one, but I had no idea where to go from there. Luckily I think I've figured it out, but I can't promise quick updates as school is completely stressing me to my core, and my mental health is not letting up either.
I actually may or may not be isolating myself from my friends as I type.
ANYWAYS
feedback is always appreciated💕
LOVE YA GAYS🏳️‍🌈
P.S. Apparently Disney spells Kelsey's name as Kelsi?? But imma not
