I think you know

Ryan was happy. Elated, even. And not in that 'temporarily happy until he remembers that one thing that always brings him down' way. Because that used to be his unrequited crush on Chad, but now it wasn't as unrequited as he thought, and they were going on a date, and he was genuinely happy.

So happy, in fact, that he didn't notice when he rambled on about the details of his conversation with Chad to Kelsey in the car.

...Through text, of course. Ryan was happy, but not stupid. Oblivious maybe, but not stupid. He wouldn't just blurt out that he was going on a date with the best friend of his sisters definitely unrequited crush, right in front of his sister. Especially considering he had just managed to convince his sister that Chad and him were just making up after a fight. A 'friend' fight.

He didn't want his father to know either, not that his twin would tell him. Sharpay was selfish and scary at times, but she was loyal to the people she cared about. She had seen the disaster that was their father facing his sons sexuality, first hand.

He wasn't exactly hateful, or violent, just 'disappointed'. Ryan remembered the conversation well. He was 12, and didn't understand why him sending a valentine to Matthew G. from Ms. Burkawitz's class was such a big deal.

Ry shook his head, turning his attention back to his texts with Kelsey.

'Genuinely happy' he reminded himself.

Kelsey got off at her house not too long after Ryan finished his story, her house being in a nice but smaller neighborhood than what he was used to, located near Easy High. It was close enough that it normally would've taken only a few minutes to get there, but Sharpay liked to take the 'scenic' route, also know as the 'Sharpay isn't paying attention and missed the same turn multiple times' route.

Kelsey unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out the door of the convertible (A/N IDK Cars don't fight me. Or do, I'm full of rage), giving Ry a knowing look and a hug, and sending a half-assed wave in the direction of Sharpay, who was too busy reapplying her strawberry-scented pink lipgloss in the rearview mirror to notice anyways.

Sharpay took longer than her brother would've liked to pull out of the driveway and begin their journey into the terrifyingly intimidating neighborhood that they called home, but Ryan kept himself occupied texting Chad.

Their conversations started out pretty normal; homework and the play and such, but quickly took a turn when Chad Always-unsure-and-nervous-and-stuttery-when-it-came-to-flirting-with-guys Danforth said something rather brave and straightforward.

Afro-Boy: I can't stop thinking about kissing you again

Ryan could feel himself blushing, becoming noticeably flustered.

So noticeably, in fact, that Sharpay gave him a suspicious look in the rear view mirror.

"Why are you so happy?" She mused, raising an eyebrow.

Ryan hadn't bothered to move to the front seat after Kelsey left, and Sharpay didn't really care.

Ryan rolled his eyes, "Can't a guy be happy without his annoyingly lovely sister interrogating him?"

Sharpay furrowed her eyebrows.

The answer was no. No he could not.
