Part 7

First thing Daniel says is,"When I was getting the newspaper earlier I saw you talking with another boy our age. Who was that?" Was he jealous? Did he think that I was with Jake? "Oh, that was Jake. He lives over there," I tell him pointing over towards his house. "He seemed upset after you talked to him. What happened?" he asks. "Oh he asked me if I wanted to go on a bike ride but I told him that I would rather skateboard which he kind of hates," I tell Daniel.

Seeing the look on Daniels' face makes me continue,"He kind of deserved it thought after what happened yesterday. We were at a party over at Ivy's one of our other neighbors. We were playing hide 'n' seek and he came to my hiding spot a few minutes in the game. He tells me that our next game is spin the bottle but we can just get started then. He says it was just a prank but it was weird." I stop and Daniel laughs. "I don't see what's funny," I say.

"The whole situation and especially the looks on your face and your reaction," Daniel says. I roll my eyes. "Are you and Jake together?" he asks. "NO!" I tell him. "Oh its just the way he was talking to you this morning made it seem like you two were together," he says. "He has been acting that way ever since he pulled his supposed prank," I tell Daniel. "Maybe he feels really sorry," he says, and then continues,"He might like you too."

"Too?" I say confused. "Yes too. Why do you think I care if anything is going on between you too if I don't want to be with you?" Daniel asks. I stop swinging and sit there kind of shocked because I was not expecting this so soon. I thought I was ready for this until it really happened. I start to walk away until he catches my hand and pulls me in spinning me along the length of his arm until we are only about an inch away from each other. I bite my lip and start to stutter.

When my thoughts start to gather I say,"I wasn't thinking about it that way." Then he asks me,"What would you think if I asked you to be with me?" I process this then say,"I think that I would say that I would like to be with you?" He stands there for a few seconds in shock and then says,"Are you joking?" I laugh to myself and then tell him,"No not really." He pulls me into a hug and kisses my cheek.

"Before I actually say yes; I just want to make sure that if this doesn't work out right we can still be friends right?" I ask him. "Yes, of course, Alex," he answers. He is the only person besides Jake who is calling me Alex. I don't even know why Jake is calling me Alex though. Maybe Daniel was right about Jake liking me. "How did you land yourself in this dilemma Alex?" I ask myself. I try to figure out the answer but couldn't really think of anything.
