Coughing, I lean over the toilet and dry heave. My stomach contracts and I wince. For the past couple of days, I've been coughing none stop and it's been so fucking annoying. Ricky and Alex think it's something I should be worried about. But I'm pretty for sure it's just a common cold.

"Jess, you okay in there?" Ricky calls through the bathroom door.

Did I mention me and Ricky broke up? We both realized how awkward it was and decided to stay friends instead. But only we know that. While we were still dating, Ryan would back off and ignore me, considering he didn't want his dick being ripped off because he was being rude to his friend's girlfriend. Therefore, Ricky came up with the idea to just not tell the others that we were broken up so Ryan would stay off of my back. Not mention, Alex would be disappointed; she was so happy we started dating.

Wiping my mouth, I respond.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I call out. After washing my hands, I come out of the bathroom to see Ricky standing there with his arms crossed.

"Look. I know we're not dating and all but that doesn't mean I don't care about you any less," he murmurs quietly. "Please go to the doctor or something. Your coughing is just getting worse."

I roll my eyes.
"It's just a simple cold. Strep throats at the worse. It is winter and cold and flu season after all."

Ricky sighs. "I know, but still. Please, for me?"

I roll my eyes again. "Fine. If it gets worse only. It'll probably pass in a few days anyways."

Ricky glares at me before giving in. "Okay. But I'm keeping an eye on you just in case. First time your ass shows a fever, I'm taking you to the doctor and they can stick your ass with some needles."

I shiver. "The hell you will. Fuck needles. I can handle tattoos and piercings but needles embedded into my skin and in my veins. Fuck. That."

Ricky laughs and shakes his head before throwing an arm over my shoulder. "Let's go, Babe," he jokes. "Alex is cooking breakfast for us and the boys are coming over so if you want food you better get it now."

I smile and shake my head as well.
"Of cour-- Wait. Did you say Alex is cooking?"

"Yep."

"Dear God. We're gonna die," I laugh.

"HEY!" Alex yells from the stove right as Ricky and I walk into the open kitchen/dining room.

"Don't worry. I'll protect you from the fire," Ricky smirks.

"Dude! What the fuck! You're my bro! You're suppose to be one my side!" Alex gasps.

I smirk and snuggle into Ricky.

"Actually. I'm his girlfriend. He's suppose to side with me no matter what. Isn't that right, hon?" I snicker.

Ricky nods.

"Yeah, well," Alex tucks her hair behind her ear. "My cooking isn't that bad," she mumbles.

I detangle myself from Ricky and mess up her hair. "I'm just messing with you. You can cook better than I can."

"Damm straight," Alex puffs her chest proudly and I laugh. Ryan walks in and hugs Alex from behind, giving her a sweet kiss on the cheek.

Quickly backing away, I return to my spot beside Ricky. He kisses my cheek, keeping up with the mirage of our fake relationship. Alex continues to cook and I watch as her and Ryan interact.

Honestly, it makes my heart hurt a little. I couldn't comprehend how someone so rude and cruel could be so sweet and nice in a flip of a switch. Ryan treated Alex like the world. Everyday when he would come home from work, he would have some type of small gift for her. Whenever Alex would come home from college stressed, he would give her back rubs and fix her dinner and do anything possible he could to help her relax.

I just didn't realize how.... Hell, I don't even know anymore. This shouldn't bother me but it does.

"Food's ready," Alex calls, bringing in plates of food.

I clap happily, changing my train of thoughts. Food was always good at any time of day, no matter the situation.

"Ooooooh. Pancakes!" I bounce in my seat.

"Yeah, yeah. Now eat up."

Happily obliging, I cut a piece of pancake and pop it into my mouth.
Almost instantly, I start choking. I grab at my throats as the others start laughing.

"What's wrong, love?" Ricky laughs.

"BITCH BURNT MY PANCAKE!"
