"Why exactly are we allowing Weston Prep to hirer whomever they please?" Victor asked as he and the other leaders sat around the giant conference table. He had known each of the leaders for years and felt comfortable enough to make demands when he saw fit.
Gregor sighed loudly so that his obvious disdain for having to go over a discussed topic again would be clearly heard. "This has been repeated. Weston Prep is in need of a language teacher. Greta Klassen is the most highly recommended teacher of foreign languages. She has been vetted through a rigorous screening process. She is the one to take over the job."
"But she's not one of us," Harold put in.
"There isn't one of us who could do her job," Gregor replied. "It's not as if we have an abundance of females to choose from. And she won't be the first human teaching." He knew that everyone around the table was well aware of that fact. "And there are other humans who attend school with our children."
"Why weren't we brought in when she was interviewed?" Victor asked. "I think that this decision wasn't one to be made lightly."
Gregor growled lowed in his throat. "This decision was mine to make." His hands were on the table, ready to push himself to a standing position if he felt that any of the men surrounding the table would challenge him. "As for an interview process, she didn't go through one."
"What?" Harold wasn't the only one shocked around the table, but he was the only one to voice his surprise.
Gregor laid his hands flat on the table. "Klassen is an extremely qualified teacher who is in high demand. She literally could choose whichever school she wants. Every school in the state, and several others outside of the state, have tried to get her to teach for them. She refuses to even consider another job over the small school she works at now."
"And she chose Weston Prep?" Dimitri asked, clearly suspicious of the motive behind her switch. "I'm certain the school has increased her pay substantially."
This time Gregor shook his head. "I had a few people discreetly offer her four times her pay with benefits that could sway anyone. She refused, kindly, but refused. She enjoys her work and isn't in it for the money."
"Does Weston Prep have this teacher or not?" Harold asked. Apparently he had done a complete change and now decided that this rare gem should be nowhere if not at Weston Prep.
"Since I couldn't get her to quit her job, I had the principal at her school lay her off," Gregor said. "I had to donate quite a bit of money to that school to convince the principal that Klassen was worth letting go, but she did."
"So, she's at the school now?"
Gregor shook his head. "It still took a bit of convincing to get her to come to Weston. Surprisingly money isn't the biggest factor in her decision of where she wants to teach." He didn't want the others at the table to get the wrong idea, so he quickly added, "She is being well paid for her service, but that wasn't what convinced her."
"And what did convince her," Dimitri, the most doubting Thomas of the lot, asked, again bringing up the character of the woman in question.
"The fact that I had the other schools refuse any of Klassen's resumes. She had only one option. It was Weston Prep." Gregor wasn't worried about what the other men around the table would say about the underhanded tactics he had used to get what he wanted. All the men were used to dealing with the human world in a less than honorable way to get what they wanted.
"Has anyone met her?"
Gregor raised his hand. "I have never met her in person, but I have met with numerous people who have worked with her."
"You hired someone whom you have never met?" It was Dimitri talking again.
"If I had met her, she would have known that Weston Prep was looking into getting her as a teacher. I didn't want to take the chance that she would say no and then find out that it was the only school that would hire her. I figured that I might have to use some underhanded tactics and knew it would be best to keep her in the dark about me or any of us."
"So when does she start?" Harold asked.
"Tomorrow."
I hope you enjoy the new story!!!!
