"And what about you Mr Kaminari?" She turned to a boy who had yellow hair that resembled his quirk of electricity.
"I can generate electricity?" He stated dumbly.
"Is that it?" She raised both her brows, a disappointed look on her face. "Miss Uraraka?"
The brunette girl couldn't answer either, and they all sat in confused silence staring up at her with mixed expressions. Kyoura's confidence was rising by the minute and she was beginning to feel sorry for Shota, but at the thought of him she shook her head, scolding herself.
"I guess you don't know much about quirks anyway?" She held up her gloved arms and shrugged picking up the chalk once more to start writing on the board again. "Before I get into it, my lessons will be confusing and border on the line of opinion over fact. But your other teachers and Headmaster have deemed them important.
"A quirk means nothing if you don't have the character to use it, to evolve it. Because really, if I could strip away your quirks this very moment you'd all be nothing." Her words were different to what she was writing on the board, and her students sounded all flustered trying to take in her verbal lesson and copy down the written one. "Just because you have a quirk, doesn't mean you're a hero. I'm not a hero, but others would beg to differ. I have a quirk and even if I didn't I'd still be worth something. Do you understand?"
They all looked at her dumbfounded and she pointed to the board, simultaneously releasing a sigh. On it read:
Definitions:
Quirk - An abnormal ability or mutation that pushed an individual beyond human status.
Hero - Someone who fights for what is right, or someone others look up to.
Character - The underlying persona yet also the presentation of an individual."If you want to be a hero, you don't need a quirk." Her eyes drifted to a messy, green haired boy who squirmed at her statement. "If you think deeply about it, you might not have the character for it but people can label you a hero. All you need is to actually do the right thing. Understand?"
She was met with several blank expressions, a few of the older and more brighter looking students all appeared to have some level of knowledge on the matter, but the majority were confused. Was she speaking too fast?
"Let's look at a well known example then, All Might. What's his quirk?"
The ones she expected to raised their hands but instead she picked on the boy with the green hair. He shared a similar quirk to Yagi and she wondered whether this particular example would help him specifically.
"Midoriya?"
"Oh, um, he's super strong..." he stuttered, eliciting some laughter from his class mates. He muttered something else that no one else but her caught, and it caused her face to light up.
"Yes, you're right. And what is his character, Yaoyorozu?"
The girl paused for a moment to think, her eyes shot open wide and she answered with an air of undiluted confidence. "His never faltering smile and phrase 'I am here'."
"Yes, that's it. But what if we took that away from him, is he still a hero?" There were a few heads that shook and she knew that the truth was suddenly dawning on them. "Yes, many of you clearly look up to him and he has done the right thing many a time."
"Ms. Majime, you claimed you're not a hero but others argue this statement. You have a quirk, but despite doing the right things you lack the character, am I correct?" A hand shot into the air.
"Yes, Mr Iida, you're quite correct." She nodded, she'd have to be careful around the blue haired one. "My quirk, would not make me a hero in the same way that any of you would be, I don't put on a front so I lack the character but I've done the right thing."
