The next few days went by in a haze. Every night Amelia struggled falling asleep because Billy was haunting her thoughts. The usual nightmares she had for years changed, the one of the alley disappeared. Billy emerged instead. Amelia sometimes dreamt about Billy's anger, in those nightmares he always turned into a real life monster. But sometimes she had some nice dreams, for instance she dreamt about the warmth that flowed through her body when their fingers were intertwined, she dreamt about getting lost in his gorgeous eyes.
The constant shifts from bad dreams to good dreams caused her to hardly sleep, dragging herself forward like a zombie. Amelia's friends noticed how quiet and distant she had become. But she couldn't help it. Amelia urgently needed a good night's sleep or something else to focus on.
Benjamin already felt better so Amelia drove with him to school every day. She softly cursed her stepbrothers quick recovery for she wished she could ride to school with Billy. After what happened on Tuesday, they had hardly spoke. Billy nodded every time he saw her at school. They were both unsure of how to handle their intimate encounter in her bedroom.
Billy remained the same; he was swarmed with girls as they craved his attention. Amelia wondered if he showed them the fragile crack in his tough personality, like he did with her.
On Friday, Stacey announced that she was having a party at her house on Saturday night. She only invited a handful of people, but everyone knew that her enormous house would be packed by drunk and horny teenagers by the end of the night. Rebecca was obviously invited and slightly forced her to come. Steve had promised to pick her up and drop her back off, which she was very grateful for.
Sarah refused to come - no surprise there. Amelia didn't even bother asking Jonathan and Nancy for she had barely spoken with them this week. They were constantly together, whispering in the corner. Amelia didn't care honestly, she had other things on her mind.
It was now a late Saturday afternoon and the young Jonsen-siblings had just finished playing tag in the garden. The butterfly kisses and the screaming with laughter were still fresh on Amelia's mind and she wished her younger sister would forever stay young and innocent.
They had been all alone at home since Benjamin had left to hang out with some friends whereas their parents were probably doing something boring. Amelia had held Cora in her arms as they watched some child's program. After a while Amelia had heard a soft breath indicating that her sister had fallen asleep. She stroked her little sisters' head and gently took Cora in her arms before putting her in bed.
Amelia decided to take a longer shower than usual. She still had plenty of time to get ready and nobody was home to bug her. After a nice, relaxing shower she stood in front of her wardrobe; unsure of what to wear. Amelia finally decided on a black dress with a bright floral pattern. The dress came above her knees; still a respectable length.
After she had curled her long, dark brown hair she had put on some mascara and eyeliner to darken her eyes. If her mom would have been there, she would have never agreed to her make up. Amelia puttered her lips as she smeared a dark lipstick on. Afterwards she took a step back and looked at the result.
Amelia secretly hoped that Billy would be there too. Maybe he would be more willing to be somewhat looser around her, giving her more than just a friendly nod. An exciting feeling nestled in her stomach and continued on when she wrote a note and left it on the kitchen counter.
As soon as she had dropped the note, someone rang the doorbell. "Wow, you look beautiful." Steve breathed out before whistling with his two fingers in his mouth. Amelia rolled her eyes and laughed shyly. "Thanks, Steve." She said as she dramatically touched her hair.
