Amelia's POV (Monday):

The past few days had passed by slowly. Amelia hadn't talked to Billy since she saw him flirt with Tina. She had tried her best to completely ignore him since she just couldn't take it any more. It hurt because she sincerely thought Billy was an intriguing person and perhaps they could have been more but a future with him would only consist of heartbreak and betrayal.

During the weekend Amelia had the chance to think about Steve since she wasn't allowed to go out or talk to her friends. She kept a diary in which she shared her stories and deepest wishes. Her diary was something sacred; Amelia would never allow anyone else to read it. Nobody knew about it and she intended to keep it that way.

Amelia had written a lot about Billy and Steve, contemplating which one was the better option. It sounded very vain but she knew she needed to make a choice and stick with it. She had written a list filled with pros and cons for both boys. Billy was the one who made her heart beat faster and fill her body with adrenalin. He was exciting and mysterious but a gigantic asshole who didn't care about anyone else's feelings. Steve, on the other hand, was a good friend who always made her laugh. She could always depend on him whenever she had a hard time.

They trusted each other and trust was something she couldn't magically hand over to Billy.

But then again; Steve was keeping a secret from her. Not only him, but Jonathan and Nancy were involved too. So how could she say that she trusted him if he probably lied in her face all the time?

Somehow Amelia knew that whatever the three of them did or saw, it couldn't possibly be worse than what Billy was doing. They probably did something stupid and were afraid that the police would find out so they made a pact to never mention it again.

At the end of the weekend Amelia had enough of her constant internal battle and made her decision. She decided to give Steve a chance.

What could possibly go wrong?

Amelia opened her eyes and felt relieved. Two more days and her detention and house arrest would finally be over. She couldn't wait until she was able to go out with her friends again and use the phone to gossip about actors and other teenage girls with Rebecca.

The not-seeing-her-friends part was awful but detention was downright dreadful. The teenagers going to detention differed from day to day but they were mainly people Amelia had never seen before. Some of them seemed isolated while others looked very though as if nothing in the world mattered to them. She wondered why they were there but they never spoke to her and she didn't ask them any questions.

Amelia crawled out of bed and quickly took a shower. She applied some light make-up and curled her hair. Since it was November, the wind started to feel colder. All the bright colors that were strongly present in the summer changed. So Amelia decided it was time to store her summer clothes and take out the comfy, winter clothes. She decided to wear a pink oversized sweater with jeans that ended above her ankles. She paired it with red converse and a dark brown jacket.

Amelia repeated the rest of her daily morning routine; waking up Cora and dressing her, eating breakfast with her dysfunctional family and waiting for Benjamin to leave to school. Amelia felt both nervous and excited. She was slightly nervous because she was going to have a somewhat serious conversation with Steve but on the other hand, she was looking forward to it. This could be her chance to have a normal relationship with a normal guy. Isn't that what she had always wanted?

When Benjamin and Amelia arrived at the parking lot, she spotted Steve just a bit further away. Quickly Amelia slammed the door shut and walked in his direction. "Hey." She said. They hadn't talked much after the whole library incident for she guessed Steve wanted to give her some space. "Hey Amelia, what's up?" Steve said while running his hand through his hair, a habit he seemed to love.
