"It all crept upon you.. it played your mind.."
I parked my bike, put the kick stand out, and walked away. I adjusted my backpack and tugged on the strap. I looked up at the diner that Marco had given me. He had told me that this was the closet location he had gotten. He had been working on this case for a little over 19 years-my whole life-. I had grown up with him, always interested in what he was doing.
One day I found pictures of a beautiful woman. Come to find out it was my mother who had died. Apparently I was some miracle. She was dying when she was pregnant with me. I was cut out of her stomach by somebody and rushed to the hospital. She was left to die. From what I gather that's what happened.
I didn't know though.
I opened up the door to the small diner. So far, all Oregon has showed me was rain. The bell dinged as the door shut behind me. The few people that were in the diner looked at me. I didn't bother to care if they stared at me. I walked to the farthest corner and sat down at a booth. I tapped my fingers on the table. I heard something spill to the floor with a loud bang.
"Becky! Please help me clean this up! A new customer just came in and I need to go wait the table!" A voice said.
"Come on Gina! You know I have to make food!" Becky said in return.
I watched as Becky came out. She was heavyset with red locks pinned out of her face. She reminded me of Mrs. Puff from SpongeBob. I smirked to myself. I watched the other girl Gina Im assuming laughing to herself as she walked towards me. She pushed the hair from her face and stopped at my table.
She huffed once more before getting her paper and pen from her ear. She chewed on the cap as she looked at me. She had wild black hair. It was frizzy and everywhere. She has deep, smiling brown eyes as she raised an eye brow at me.
"Well are you going to tell me what you want or not?" She said smirking. She had one dimple on her cheeks.
I blinked a few times before I coughed. Then she smirks? What was going on? I was kind of confused but I pushed it away and gripped the menu.
"Ill take a burger and fries with a large coke." I told her.
She wrote my order down on her paper and turned on her heels and walked away.
"Gina you better clean that mess us before OSHA gets us again!" Becky screamed.
"Chill out Becks! You'll sweat all of that sexiness away." Gina said back.
"Crazy teenager." Becky said.
I shrugged my backpack off my shoulder and unzipped it. I dug through my bag feeling for the picture. When I felt the edge of it I pulled it out. I unfolded it and opened it all the way. I memorized her face all over again. I closed my eyes and immediately pushed the picture back in my bag when I heard a plate hit my table.
"Here's your food Doll." Gina said to me.
I rolled my lips together and looked up at her.
"Thanks." I said.
She sat down in my booth and leaned her arm on it. She tilted her head at me. "You've got tan skin. Where are you from? You've got an accent too. British but southern. Where are you from?" She rambled on.
I reached for my drink but noticed that it wasn't there. I looked at her and rolled my eyes. "Drink please?" I asked.
"Oh right, a coke." She said as she got up.
I bit into the burger and my mouth watered. This burger was amazing. Gina came back and sat the coke down in front of me.
"So where are you from? Ive never seen you around here." She said.
"May I eat?" I asked as I took a sip of my coke.
She narrowed her eyes at me before she tapped her chin. She raised an eyebrow at me. "You gonna answer my question?" She pushed again.
"Born in England. Lived in North Carolina. What else do you want?" I snapped beginning to become frustrated at this girl.
How could annoying could one girl get?
"How do you have an accent then?" She asked.
"Look, Gina is it?" I asked.
She nodded as I continued. "I don't know you and you don't need to know me. Im just passing through. What does it matter how I speak?"
She shrugged, smirking. "I just really like your accent. Ive never met a British person." She said.
I scoffed at her and bit into my burger again. "Im not a zoo animal." I said with a mouth full.
She frowned. "Im sorry im not meaning to be rude, I just don't like people always pointing it out when I speak." I say to her.
"I didn't know it would have bothered you. Ill let you eat. Can I at least no your name?" She asked.
"Harry." I said.
She half smiled at me, flashing her dimples, as she walked away from the booth. I finished off my food slowly and then walked out of the diner.
I hope all people from Oregon are not as pushy as her.
