Tomorrow is the first day of school. Not great timing for a break up, I admit. Is tomorrow really necessary for me going?
"Yes, Matt you have to go to school tomorrow."
I sit on the kitchen counter while my mom cooks dinner on the stove.
I groan.
"Mom, please. I can't stand Elizabeth's friends coming up to me and telling me how much of an asshole I am."
"Language"
"Sorry. But not just her friends. Everyone will be talking. She will be crying in the halls. You can't break up with someone you've been dating for a year without drama. Mom please."
"Sorry Matty. First days are important."
I hate it when she calls me that.
She brings the wooden spoon she's been cooking with in front of my face.
"How does this taste?"
I take a bite of the pasta.
"Oh wow. It's so amazing! You are such a great cook! And a great mom!"
I see her eyes widen then squint and then give me a facial expression of disgust.
"You know that won't let you stay home tomorrow. Nice try, now go set the table."
I sigh. This is gonna suck.
