He'd had enough of this. He was tired of doubting their relationship. Today was Valentines Day, and the day that Virgil would come clean about his love for Roman. Before Virgil started dating him, Roman was in a relationship with Logan. A similar situation occurred at the end of their relationship."'I never wanted to love you. I only wanted to love and not be blamed.'"
He just hoped that this time, it would end better.
"'I loved you more than I meant to I'm distressed, how I love you.'"
Virgil approached Roman's room waiting for the fanciful side to walk out. He did, about a minute later.
"Virgil! It's great to see you! I've been planning something for Valentines Day!"
The words Virgil wished he could say played over and over in his head.
"'I never wanted to love you. I never wanted 'til death do we two part. How do I start not to love you?'"
"Roman, we need to talk."
"About what?" Roman's excited demenor had cracked.
"About what's going on between us." Virgil sighed. He wished it hadn't come to this.
Roman's eyes widened. "Are you unhappy? Do I need to change something? Am I doing something wrong?""'I'm everything he wanted. It's time to put it all together.'"
Even though he didn't want to break his boyfriend's heart, Virgil finally had the courage to say what was on his mind.
"'He's mine, he's mine!'"
"Roman, just please stop rambling and let me talk!" Maybe that outburst was too much. Virgil didn't notice at the time. He just wanted to say the right thing and not mess up.
"I think it would be best if we broke up for now."
"'I never wanted to love you. I only wanted to see my face in yours.'"
Roman was dumbfounded. "Wait what?"
"This just doesn't feel right. At least not now.""'Anyhow, we're through.'"
Roman let out a shaky breath. "Virgil-"
"Roman, please don't convince me not to. It's just. I...I've been feeling unsure about if this is a good relationship. You and Logan had just broken up and I want to know if you actually love me or if this was just a crutch.""'I never wanted, I wanted,'"
"Virge! Of course I love you. If I'm willing to change, I will but I just wanted to know one thing." Roman said.
"'I never never never never never never wanted to love you.'"
Virgil sighed. "I don't know. I think I do. I just need time to think about this. I keep telling myself that I made a mistake. I don't want to be used or teased or-" he stopped, realizing what had just come out of his mouth.
"'I never wanted to love you.'"
"Ro. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean-"
"It's fine, Virgil. I'm sorry for what I said in the past, and I understand if you're unsure about this because of that. Go ahead. Take your time. I'm not mad.""Okay then." Virgil said. He felt horrible. He wished he had approached the situation a different way, and not breaking up with Roman on Valentines Day out of all days! "Will you be okay?"
"I'll be fine." The pain in Roman's eyes said otherwise.
"'I never wanted to love you.'"
"Again. I'm sorry. I wish I handled this differently and that I wasn't so scared to just say what I'm thinking." Virgil sighed.
"I'm sorry for not making you feel your best. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable or insecure in any way." Roman responded.
"I know." Virgil said.
"I'll still be there for you." Roman added.
"I know. Thanks." Virgil replied. "Well, I should go. I hope you've been having a good Valentines Day."
"You too.""'I never wanted to love you.'"
Roman went back to his room and Virgil walked back down to his. The weight had been lifted but a new one had been dropped on both of their shoulders. Both of them were unsure about starting the relationship at first, and Virgil thought he was sure about the breakup. Now, walking back, he regretted it even more. Soon, everything came together again in his head and he raced back down the hall.
This time, he'd tell the whole story, not run away from it.
"Roman, wait!"
"'Love you.'"
