Just had to do a chapter of how Cole's life is. Enjoy.

Cole's POV

Her phone rings for a while before she picks it up.

"Hello, who is this?" She says wearily.

"Hey, Amelia. It's me Cole."

I hear the light shuffles, it's as if she's struggling to seat upright. She must have been asleep then.

"How did you get my number, Cole?" I hear the surprise in her tone.

"I won't disclose that." She simply scoffs a bit and says nothing.

"Well, I just wanted to check up on you. Goodnight."

"Yeah, thanks. Goodnight." She says and cuts the call.

After the call, I decide to check for university admissions open for catering. Few are open now, only one is available here in Ottawa. I apply for that one and hope for the best.

I don't want to study far from here, I still need to work to pay for tuition.

I even need to call mother, she must be worried sick.

"Hi, mom." I say as soon as she picks.

"Cole, how are you doing?" she says happily.

"I'm fine mom. Just working and trying to earn some money." I reply.

"Son, please come home. We can provide for your schooling. Your father is hardly home and I feel lonely here. I understand you don't want to continue the family business, but I miss you so much." I can hear the pain in her voice and I struggle to not start packing.

"I miss you too, mother, but Dad made it clear I couldn't stay in his house if I didn't want to continue his business. I can't come back now." I answer.

After a while, she sniffs and replies, "Okay son, it's not your fault. Promise me you'll take care of yourself. I'll be calling to check, alright?"

"Yes mom, I will. I love you mom."

"Love you more, son. Goodnight."

"I can't believe I'm late for work today." I say to myself. This hasn't happened before.

"Young man, is this the appropriate time to resume work?" Mr Chandlers asks as he narrows his eyes at me coming in through the back door.

"I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again." I reply.

"Is there a reason you came to work an hour late?"

That's the confusing part, there is no reason...or maybe there is. I woke up late, but I can't tell him that.

"No valid reason, sir."

"Hmm, you're lucky it's your first time. Get to work quickly." He orders and disappears into his... office.

"Dude, you've never been late before. What happened?" Tyler asks.

"Woke up late." I respond simply.

"Two Café Latte please." someone orders. As I give the cups, I realize it's Amelia's friend, Kathy.

"Hey, Cole." she says.

"Kathy, how are you doing?" I reply, using my eyes to search for Amelia.

As if noticing my eyes, she smiles and replies "I'm fine. Amelia isn't here, I'm here with someone else."

I sigh lightly and nod. She engages in small talk with Tyler before she leaves to sit with an unfamiliar girl.

"Do you like this Amelia that much?" Tyler asks mischievously.

"Well not in the way you think. She just bears a resemblance to someone I know." I reply, the muscles in my face tightening.

"Okay, let's get on with work before he comes again." Tyler grins referring to Mr Chandler.

The rest of the day passes by fast with different people ordering coffee. After work, I recall the only event worth noticing today. It was a argument between two guys and Tyler over a cup of coffee they ordered.

They didn't remember what they ordered and started blaming Tyler until he showed them where their orders were written boldly. It was funny how they walked out of the cafe shame-faced.

"Bro, let's go grab some drinks." Tyler says.

"Okay, nothing to do at home anyway." I reply.

The bar is a few blocks away from the cafe, a small building with most of the space being used for dancing.

The bar is empty tonight with only about four guys present. As usual, there is a scantily clad girl dancing but no one pays her any attention including Tyler.

After a few drinks, I decide to ask Tyler about his university applications. He wants to go into engineering, the same field as my father. I haven't told him that yet.

"Tyler, what about the school applications?" I ask.

"Oh, I applied to a few universities doing engineering. I'm still waiting for feedback."

"Oh, okay. I actually did the same thing and I'm still waiting for feedback as well." I say.

As soon as we get home, I see an incoming email. I open it and see that it's from Dad.

'If you don't come home for the business, forget about anything that has to do with this family.' I close the email sighing and go to bed.

Dad can't drag me into the family business like a dog, I've got my own life to live. With this thought in mind, I fall asleep.
