By the next week, I was already looking for accommodation. Most of the houses I saw for rent were a bit far from the school, so transport would likely be a problem.

I ended up choosing a room located in a building with one top floors, my room was on the top floor. The other rooms were occupied, so the building was filled. I counted, and there were 10 rooms altogether. The pay was small, but the room was nice. Perfect.

After packing in all my stuff, helped by Leo and Daisy, I facetimed my dad. I hadn't seen him for the past two weeks and I wanted to hear his voice.

"Hey, dad." I said as soon as his face popped up on the screen.

"Angel, how are you doing? How is school? Hope you are hungry, because I'm making pasta." My dad replied, grinning.

"Dad!" I whined. "That's my favourite, how would I eat it?"

"Oops. Sorry, I forgot you aren't here in Ottawa." He apologized, but I saw his twinkling eyes. He was totally making fun of me.

I pouted. "Not fair, dad. I know you're possibly going it." Leo made a funny face at me, and I remembered why I called.

"Dad, remember the project I told you about? I moved in today." I beamed.

"Ohh, I hope the place is OK. I don't want roaches and mosquitoes disturbing you. You're with bug spray right, and pepper spray as well?" My dad could be such a mom.

"Yes dad, I have everything I need." I was about to say more when I heard a female voice.

"Dad? Who's that?" I didn't remember my dad knowing any female well enough to invite over.

"Ohh, it's April. She works with me." He smiled, as a blonde haired woman waved at me.

"Hi, Amelia. I've heard so much about you. He always talks about you."

"Oh, it's nice to meet you. Dad, bye I'll talk to you later." I said, ending the call.

I used an earpiece, so Leo and Daisy didn't know what happened.

I continued unpacking and lightly brushed off their looks of concern, until Daisy asked if I was ok. They could tell something was up.

"Well, I don't know. My dad had this woman around when I called him. My dad has never invited another woman apart from relatives to the house. He even looked happy, I should be happy too but I'm not." I spilled out in a single breath.

"Why aren't you happy? You don't want some stranger creeping into your lives and changing everything? Or you don't want your dad to move on from your mom?" Leo asked, earning him a slap on the arm from Daisy.

"That's harsh, Leonardo." Daisy glared at him, as she hugged me comfortingly.

"Oww, I'm sorry but it's the truth. Look, Amelia, I know you have good intentions and all but you need to consider your dad too. You're not always going to be there, and even if you are, he has needs as well. Maybe it's time you let him move on just like you have."

I sighed. He was harsh, but he was correct. At some point, my dad would need someone to always be there for him and it might not be me. I didn't want him feeling lonely because I was selfish.

Nodding, I replied, "Thanks Leo, you're right. I'll try to be accommodating. Daisy, thanks for the jugs. You know I love you both."

"My prayers have finally been answered. Can I kiss you now?" Leo smirked, to which I just squeezed his ears before making my bed.

"Can a girl get some sleep?" I groaned into my pillow. I checked the time, it was 2am.

The person living directly below my room had decided to turn his room into a mini club. My floor was shaking due to the loud music. I had to contact someone, it had been going on for the past three nights and I couldn't keep going to class looking like a zombie.

I quickly made a call and the owner of the building came to caution him. I heard him mutter 'Fuck you all' along with a string of Italian curses after the landlord left. I didn't care, I could sleep in peace for the next few hours.

Lack of enough sleep had me running late for my 9am class. I quickly put on my most casual outfit, a jean trouser with a yellow blouse and matching yellow shoes. The time was 8.30am, I could make it.

Someone started banging on my door furiously. Frustrated and slightly scared at the same time, I opened the door to see my noisy mini club neighbour glaring daggers at me.

"You! I know you called the landlord, you should be more quiet next time. From now on, expect the music playing at your doorstep." He said, smirking at me one last time before muttering an Italian word and storming away.

I was beyond shocked, he seemed... dangerous. Maybe staying off campus wasn't such a good idea, after all. I realized that the creep had stolen some of my time, so I hurried more to school.

I had to tell Leo and Daisy about it. They both adviced me to report to the landlord again or inform the police. I shook my head at the police idea, that sounded too extreme.

I decided to watch what would happen this night, it would influence my next action. I looked down at the pile of assignments I had to do over the weekend. School was tiring, even Fashion school. The good thing was that for the past weeks, I hadn't seen that girl.

After lunch with both of them, Leo drove me home, the home I would be leaving next week. That was one of the reasons I felt going to the polive was extreme, I would leave soon anyway. What could go wrong?

*********

I really needed to stop saying that.

My 'loving' neighbour did stay true to his word. By 4am, I heard extreme music playing... right in front of my room door. I wondered why no one else said anything, we weren't alone in the building after all. I waited, but no one called him out.

I slipped on my flip-flops and opened my door to see my neighbour.

"Oh, hey neighbour. How are you doing?" He asked, showing off his pearly whites.

"Hmpph." I rolled my eyes. I didn't have time for this. "Why are you disturbing my sleep with this stereo? What do you really want?"

"To disturb your peace. Besides, I'm not really making much of a noise. Notice you're the only one who complained then, and even now?" He smirked, knowing he was right.

"Look, I'm sorry for complaining but you know you're really disturbing everyone's peace, for no just reason."

"I know." He said, closing his eyes. "I just wanted to get to talk to you, I didn't know how so I came up with this."

I just opened and closed my mouth, without saying a word. This was a surprising twist.

"Wow, now I'm scared." I whispered, slowly backing into my room.

"Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.  If you just give me a second chance for a few minutes."

I slowly nodded, half scared of what he might do if I didn't. The remaining half was because I realized how cute he was.

Thank God it was a weekend.
