He was sleeping when I peered my head into his room. I had been tasked with actually getting Auston awake for his flight in a few hours, and although I didn't really want him to go, I knew he had to. It was his dream, and I wasn't about to just keep him here because of my own selfish wants. I sat on the corner of his bed and started to poke his cheek, eliciting a groan as he rolled over, attempting to wrap his arm around me and pull me into the bed with him.
"Auston, come on," and I softly peeled his arm back off me. "You have to get up and get ready for your flight, you can't stay in bed forever."
"But, come cuddle me come on we have a little bit of time before we have to go don't we?"
"Actually no," and I chuckled, a soft smile etching onto my cheeks. "I let you sleep longer than you should have, so you don't have that much time."
"Kiss me then, if you can't cuddle."
"I will kiss you if you actually get ready on time, how bout that?" He leaped off the bed, and got ready in about the fastest time I had ever seen him get ready. I'm not kidding, he once took like two hours because he said his hair wasn't good enough. I smiled as he came back out.
"Never seen you get ready that fast in my life."
"Well, I happen to like your kisses so," and he brought my face up to his, planting a soft kiss on my lips before pressing our foreheads together, seeing I had closed my eyes, small tears spilling down my cheeks.
"Hey hey, please don't be sad baby."
"P....Please don't go."
"Scar, baby you know if I could stay here I would, I really would, but we're gonna be okay."
"Y....You're not gonna be here though, there's nothing you could do that'll make it like you're here," and he smiled at me, before taking off the gold chain that rested around his neck, sliding it around mine.
"This right here is my promise."
"Your promise?"
"Yes. This chain around your neck is my promise that no matter what happens in the next couple years, or who we end up with, that we will always find our way back to each other," and he smiled, softly again bringing my lips to his. "And by the way I have something else for you, so that you don't stay lonely," and all of a sudden I heard barking before the cutest puppy ran its way into my lap. "His name is Scotty, you know sounds like Scottsdale," and I smiled before petting Scotty and kissing Auston again.
The ride was silent to the airport, our hands were both intertwined. After a while, and a lot more crying on both our ends, we finally said goodbye. I got back in the car with Ema and the rest of the Matthews, my knees pulled firmly to my chest.
