They both stood there for a few minutes, neither moving, both just taking the other one in. Neither of them knew what to say, but both knew how much they missed the other. Both could see the hurt in each other's eyes, which made them realize that the mistakes which had been made over the last two years faded away once they were together again.
Auston took the first words between the two, Scarlett balancing not knowing what to say versus not knowing if she'd be able to say what she wanted to.
"Y.....You actually came. When Mitch called and said you were coming, I uh I didn't know if he was lying or not," and he ran his hands slowly through the hair that he had fixed about ten minutes ago when he learned that she would be coming to the hospital.
"Of course I came, you're my," and she stopped herself, not really knowing what to call the relationship between the two of them at this point. "Just uh, this was important, something I would've regretted having missed."
Hearing those words come out of her mouth made the few small pieces that hadn't broke in Auston's heart just completely shatter. The mistakes he had made and the ways he had hurt the girl standing in front of him were well known, and he knew they would take a lifetime to fix. For whatever reason though, some small part of him believed that deep down under all the anger and hurt, there was still at least a little ounce of love there. If it was the last thing he did before completely breaking, he was going to fight for that shred of feeling.
He was going to fight for them.
"The uh the twins are sleeping, can we talk?"
Scarlett sighed, a million thoughts running through her brain before she somehow settled on something and opened her mouth to reply, the cracks of hurt in her voice clearly evident.
"Talk about what? Talk about the fact that you lied to me? Talk about the fact that you said it was me and you and that you were coming back to me only for me to come visit you and find out you knocked up some other girl," and tears started to form in her eyes again. "Or do you wanna talk about the fact that you broke my heart and I haven't been the same since? I can go on forever about that so please spare me the fake apologies that I don't think I can handle."
He didn't think there was any part of him left to break at that point, but watching her in front of him, scared to even say a word, hit something deep inside.
"Look five minutes Scarlett, let me at least say what I have to say, and if you still don't feel the same, you can walk out of this hospital and we will be completely done with each other. I will be completely done fighting for you, I'll let you go," and he looked down, not able to meet her eyes.
Scarlett knew that she had to do something, and whether it was instinct or the fact she saw a glimpse of the Auston that she knew, she had to do something.
So she kissed him. She stood on the tips of her toes so that she reached his lips, and within seconds his arms had snaked around her waist, and they had melted into each other like two pieces of a puzzle who had finally found their way back to each other. When they finally pulled away, both of them had soft grins on their faces, almost exactly like the first time they kissed each other.
"I love you Scarlett," and he took a deep breath before continuing with his revelation. "I love you, I always have and always will love you, and if it takes me my whole life to prove it to you, I will. I'll spend the rest of my life proving it to you, because I refuse to lose you again," and he pressed a soft kiss to her temple, before softly pulling away and turning to go back to the room. Before he could really move, she put her hand on his arm and pulled him back, softly kissing him again.
"I love you too you know, I never stopped."
"Be mine then? I know it might be fast, but I've wanted you to be mine since before I left for Switzerland, and now I'm back for good, and I want to know that you'll be there, I want to know that you're mine."
She grinned before pressing her lips to his, both of them taking the kiss as a silent yes to their new relationship.
