I soon got home from school I heard crying coming from Auggie's room. What could have happened? Did Julian do something again? I swear if he did, I will kick him where the sun doesn't shine! I softly knocked on his door and asked, "Are you alright, Auggie?" No response. "I'm coming in okay?" No response again. I opened the door to see Auggie sitting on his bed with his Astronaut helmet on. "What's wrong Auggie? Did Julian say something again? I'll make sure he-" Auggie interrupted me and said, "It wasn't Julian..." I frowned and pondered, Who else could it be? "Then who was it?" I asked. He spoke barely above a whisper; "Jack Will..." Jack Will?
~~~
"Hey! Jackie!! Wanna play some soccer?" I asked the young boy. "Sure (Y/N), but I'm not that good..." He said with a frown. "I'll teach you!" I grabbed his hand and led him away from the playground.
~~~
"First you hit with the side of your foot! Make sure not to kick it with the pointy part of your shoe!" I lectured him as I passed him the ball. He was really nervous and kicked the ball with the point of his foot. "I'm so sorry!" He immediately said. "It's alright! I got it! I am a pro after all!" I gave him a toothy grin and ran to the sidewalk where the ball rolled over to. I tried to dribble the ball with my foot only to fail miserably. I tripped on the ball and fell on my knees. "Owie!" I cried in pain. Jack rushed over to me and began to panic. "Oh my gosh! (Y/N) are you alright??" I started to laugh and he stared at me confused. "I'm totally fine Jackie! I'm a big girl!" I told him. He sighed in relief and sat down next to me. "Jack Will. You need to have more confidence in yourself!" He tilted his head questionably. "You are awesome! Always remember that!"
~~~
There is no way Jack could've done something like that... Or maybe I just don't know the real him anymore. We stopped hanging out with each other after elementary school. That's how it's always been. Friends don't last forever. They come and go all the time. I know that. Then why do I still care about him? I just can't let go... We were such good friends... I hate drifting away from a friend... It feels terrible... Like you've lost a brother or sister... There's no going back to how we used to be. But right now Auggie's sad! I need to help them become friends again! He doesn't need to go through what I did!
"August Pulman! Are you really going to let him go? He was your first real friend! Don't let him off so easily! Friends come and go, so make sure you make the most of the ones who stay!" I smile at him. He smiles back and says,
"You're right... I should at least try to fix this." I give him a thumbs up.
"You got this Chewy! Go get your Han Solo back!" He logs on to Minecraft and I let him do the rest.~~~
A few days later during lunch, a girl with curly hair named Summer came to sit with us.
"You don't have to do this" Auggie said without looking up from his sandwich.
"Do what?" Summer asked cluelessly.
"I know Mr. Tushman talked to everyone telling you guys to be my friends. I won't fall for it." Auggie said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"He didn't talk to me"
"Yes he did"
"No, he didn't"
"Yes he did"
"No, he didn't I swear on my life!" Summer yelled.
"Okay, you don't have to get mad." He smiled and she took out her hand to shake. "But you'd get the plague"
"Good" Was all she said. I already like this girl. I smiled to myself knowing she'd make a good friend.
"(Y/N) I give you permission to go see your dumb boyfriend" Auggie said suddenly
"He's not my boyfriend. I have higher standards than that." I simply said. He used his hands to shoo me away.
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I got Summer." I smiled and waved goodbye. He's really growing up... I'm so proud... Tears started to swell in my eyes and quickly wiped them away. This was truly a meaningful moment. I started to walk to Julian's table. He was looking around and noticed me walking to him. He waved.
"Hey (Y/N)! Nice of you to join us!" I smiled and sat next to him.~~~
The next day, Via brought her boyfriend to dinner.
"Hi I'm Justin" he introduced himself to our parents.
"Daisy threw up again," Auggie said as he and I walked downstairs.
"Bucket loads" I finished his sentence. Gotta love twin telepathy! Justin seems nice. But I should never judge a book by its cover. What if he's an alien from outer space?
"Justin these are my little twin siblings, Auggie and (Y/N)," Via told Justin.
"Hey, guys! Nice to meet you!" He greeted
"Hi," Auggie said.
Hmm, he seems cool. If he even dares break Via's heart I will break his face.
"Nice to meet ya too!" I said happily. Let's just trust Via's judgment and accept him.
"What's that in your case, a machinegun?" Auggie asked.
"Uh no... it's a Fiddle" Justin said sheepishly.
"You should say it a machine gun that's way cooler," I said crossing my arms, imagining having cool shades on.
"You know what guys, that's a great idea." We all laughed together. No guy who plays an instrument could break hearts. I approve of him. Justin, you passed the vibe check. I grabbed Auggie's hand and tell him, "C'mon Auggie, let's give them some alone time." Mom came into the room and told us, "Auggie, (Y/N) let's go to the supermarket. I need a few things." "Okay, mom!" We both said.~~~
We were at the door about to leave but then Auggie started to rub his hands all over his body pretending he was kissing someone. How childish. I giggled as we walked out of the door.
"Bye Auggie!" Via said while laughing.
