"Are you kidding me?!" Owen asks, clearly showing an emotion between 'wow that's awesome' and 'oh shoot we're all gonna die.' "This has to be a joke. You can't be serious. You aren't serious, right?"

"We're as serious as a heart attack," Bryne says. "Now, you have to promise not to tell anyone else. We don't want to start a panic."

"We were also going to tell Sam," I say, "but we can't find her."

"Actually, Sam hasn't been in school for about three days," Owen says. "And neither has my friend Tyler. I'm pretty worried about them- especially after what you said. At first, I thought they both might've been sick, but now, I'm starting to think HE might've kidnapped them."

"Oh, he wouldn't kidnap anyone, he usually kills everyone he wants dead on sight," I say. "But, he might've just captured them until he can get a decent weapon."

Owen looks really scared, and I know why. Sam and Tyler are, like, his best friends ever, second only to this dude I met at his birthday party.

Suddenly, my phone rings.

"Hello?" I ask.

There's no answer. "Hello?!" I ask again, this time more impatiently.

"Who is that?" Bryne asks.

"No idea," I say truthfully. I turn it on speaker. Now that I can actually hear it, I hear that it's static.

"What on Earth-" Owen begins, but he's cut off.

"Testing," a voice over the phone says. "Is this thing on? Can you hear me? Ugh, how do these people use these things, anyway? Whatever."

I'm shocked. Bryne and I stare at each other. We know only one person who can A) talk and B) not know how to use a phone in 2018.

"Okay, I don't know if you can hear me, but whatever. Look, this is Herorbrine, and if on the other, er, side is Gameknight999, I've got something to say to you.

"Monkeypant271's stupid little plan failed, and I won. How does it feel, that I've beaten you?!"

Terrible. It's awful.

"By the way, your world is so complicated. I can't break trees with my hands anymore. All I broke was my finger. But the good thing is, I kept my immortal powers! YAY!"

"Herobrine, go back to Minecraft!" Bryne screams into the phone.

"Oh, is GalaxyGamer71 here, too?" Herobrine asks. "Well, this just keeps getting better and better. BTW, I've got a little surprise for the country that you'll see in a bit. BYE!! Wait. How do you hang up? Is it this-no, I just- no put me back on call! Ugh, I'm a virus, I'm supposed to know how this technology works! Is this microphone it? No, that's Google- oh here it-"

He hangs up.

"What the heck was that?!" Owen asks.

"Clearly Herobrine can't use a phone," Bryne says, and she's almost laughing. "I'm sorry, just him trying to hang up was funnier than that Jetra/Lukesse meme I saw when I was supposed to be on that math website."

Then, Bryne's phone rings.

"Don't answer!" Owen warns. "It could be him again."

"Relax, it's just Tommy's dad," she says. She answers the phone.

"Hello?" she says. "Hi. What? You're joking! You're not? Oh, wow. Okay...I'll tell him."

She hangs up.

"Tommy, you won't believe this, but Jenny's gone missing," Bryne says.

I feel myself begin to hyperventilate. I fall back against the wall.

"This is not good," I breathe. "Tyler, Sam, and Jenny? All people I know. And Jenny's my freaking sister. This is too coincidental. I don't know what to do."

"We have to fix this," Owen says. "I'm pretty sure Herobrine's kidnapped all of them. If we don't do something, they could all end up-"

"OWEN, shut UP!" Bryne yells, pointing at me.

"Something bad could happen," Owen says hastily, trying to cover up the fact that he almost said 'they could all end up dead.'

"Could you three please get to class already?!" yells my teacher, Mr. Kired. "You have literally been standing out here talking about god-knows-what for the past fifteen minutes!"

Bryne rolls her eyes and grabs my hand. "Bye, Owen."

Together, we walk down to class, still worried about what may happen to our friends.
