transfer student

"but okay did you see him though?" i shook my best friend's shoulder and she just stared at me blankly.

"yes, i did. now let go," she pushed me off and continued walking, shoving her hands into her pocket.

i rushed up to her and was about to open my mouth when someone spoke through the school speaker. it's been long since we've used that thing so it caught everyone by surprise.

'students who can speak Korean, please come to the office now.'

"ey, you can speak Korean. now leave me to be in peace, please," she pushed me towards the direction of the office and sped off.

i sighed and trudged towards the office. what could be so important that they had to use the speakers and needed someone who spoke Korean?

i walked through the sliding door and saw three other students there too. huh, maybe i wouldn't be chosen.

after a few minutes of me picking my nails and zoning out on the other students, the principal came out and eyed us.

"so you guys can speak Korean?" she asked and we all nodded. everyone seemed to look excited but i was bored out of my mind.

"fluently?" she asked again and they hesitantly nodded. i rolled my eyes and raised my hand.

"I'm half-korean," she eyed me and walked towards me. the only sound in the room were the noises in my head and the clicking sounds of her heels. is this some kind of movie?

"진짜 (really)?" i nodded.

"okay, follow me," she waved the other students off and i trailed behind her.

we entered the meeting room where the husband, wife and son were sitting, chatting silently among themselves.

"안녕하세요 (hello)," i bowed politely.

we did some introduction before my principal finally explained what was going on.

"they want to transfer their child here but he's not very fluent in English so we needed your help to guide him around and all, think you can do that?" she asked, all eyes on me.

i nodded and she smiled. she clasped her hands together, "great, now everything's settled."
