"Where the hell are we going?" I ask as we tread through the deadheads, Newt in front and me at his heels. He laughs in that stupid adorable little laugh that makes me fall in love all over again every time I hear it. "Seriously, my legs are tired!"
"From the girl who outran Minho? Try another excuse, love," He shoots back. I sigh. "We're almost there...:"
He pushes aside another tree branch stuck up in the middle of our path and turns around, backing up and pulling me forward into a kiss. I smile and just barely pull my lips away.
"We really need to stop doing this, Alby'll lose his klunk is he finds out," I say, looking up into Newt's eyes. He smiles back at me.
"Worth it-" He starts before pulling my head back in for another deep kiss. I feel him pull the ribbon out of my hair, so it covers my shoulders and frames my face instead of the tight ponytail I wear during the days. My hands grip his wrists before moving to his hair as his hands pull towards my hips. "God, I love you."
"I love you too," I whisper, breathily against his skin. I moan as his lips gravitate towards my collarbone. But all of a sudden, a snap sounds from behind me. Newt looks up and I turn my neck to see who- or what- is there.
"Thomas? What the bloody hell are you doing out here?" Newt asks as the new Greenie stands there like he'd just been caught. Probably because he had. I nervously run a hand through my hair, and Newt takes his hands off my hips and pulls me into his side, his hand resting on the small of my back.
"I was just-"
"You were just what?" Newt snaps back. I place my hand on his chest gently, like I do whenever he gets angry. His eyes meet mine and he calms down.
"What are you doing up so late?" I take over.
"I couldn't sleep," He says. I nod.
"That's normal. Come on, let's go back to the hammocks," I tell him. Newt looks over to me, upset, but I gesture back to the boy with my head and pull his hand along with me. I hear him sigh behind me and I smile, rolling my eyes.
"Everything okay?" I ask Thomas as we walk next to each other. He looks anxious.
"No, not really," He answers, which is no surprise to me honestly.
"Anything we can help with?" I offer.
"No. Why were you guys out here so late?" He asks. My eyes widen and I look at Newt.
"None of your bloody business. And if you breathe so much as a word to anyone-"
"Woah, woah, woah. You need to relax. Go to Homestead. I'll meet you there, okay?" I tell him. He huffs, but nods and leans down to kiss me before going off into the other direction."You know, it would be kind of helpful if you didn't say anything though," I mention to him. He nods.
"We don't get much time alone during the day in the Glade, this is kind of 'our spot' I suppose. But Alby made it very clear that we shouldn't go too far with each other, I don't really know why, but anyways, he'd be really mad if he found out we snuck out at night sometimes. I worry about it more than Newt does, but we both get anxious," I explain.
"At least someone's giving me answers," Thomas looks at me. I smile back up at him.
"I don't like keeping secrets."
