"So what happened to him?" Thomas asks.

"It's called the changing," Newt tells him. We're all sitting underneath the covering with our hammocks. I sit, hugging one of my knees, between Newt and Gally.

"It happens when someone gets stung," Gally says.

"Listen, we haven't been able to get a clear word out of Ben since it happened," Alby goes on. "He's not making any sense. And it's only gonna get worse. The infection is spreading." Chuck looks over at Alby. "He's dangerous..."

I bite my lip. My head shakes as I get up and leave.

"Where's she going?" Gally asks from behind me.

"Beth?" I hear Alby call. More tears trickle down my cheeks as I walk across the Glade.

"Beth, what's wrong?" Newt comes up behind me and grabs my arm to stop me from walking away from him. I turn around and he sees my tear stained cheeks. "Love?" He kneels down in front of me.

"I can't save him," I manage to whisper quietly.

"No one expects you to, you can't save everyone Beth."

"I could've tried."

"We haven't found anything like what you used to cure Gally since then, it's not your fault. I promise you, no one blames you." He tilts my chin up to look at him. "I love you."

"I love you too."

"Come on," He says, lacing our fingers together and wandering back to the hammocks where everyone else is sitting. Then I hear the dreaded question, courtesy of Thomas.

"What's going to happen to him?"
