"This is lame, you sure you don't want a ride home?" Ava asked me as she tucked her phone in her purse.
"No it's out of your way, i'll be fine, thanks." I told her as I gave her a hug goodbye.
"But i'm fine with driving you home, you sure you're good?"
"Positive, drive safe, okay?"
"I will, see you at school tomorrow, love you." She waved.
"See you, love you!" I waved back.
"Why did she leave? It's only 12:30." Amanda popped up from behind me.
"It's already 12:30?" I asked, my heart began racing as I remembered my mom telling me to be home by midnight.
"Yeah, but the party is really only starting." She laughed.
"By any chance, have you seen Shawn?" I asked.
"Couch." She pointed towards the couch where Shawn was passed out.
"Are you kidding me?" I rushed over to the couch and began to shake Shawn. "Shawn, c'mon." I shook him harder.
"He's so drunk he passed out, Bostyn, give it a rest." Steve was leaning against the doorway, watching me shake Shawn. I stopped shaking him and stared at Steve. "He's probably just going to end up crashing her tonight, need a ride?"
"I'm okay, thanks." I said, as I walked away.
"He was your ride, what are you going to do?" Steve asked me.
"I have a backup plan." I lied. "If Shawn wakes up, just tell him I left and i'll see him at school." I rolled my eyes.
"Copy that." Steve said as I swung the door open and walked out. I shivered as the cold air hit me, and I immediately regretted not wearing a coat.
My phone began buzzing in my pocket, I pulled it out and read my mom's name on the screen. "Hey mom." I answered, trying not to seem nervous.
"Bostyn I asked you to be home at midnight, where are you?" She sounded irritated.
"Um Shawn and I are getting in the car right now mom, we just have to drop off a friend first." I lied. I felt bad about lying to my mom, but she would be even more nervous if she knew I was walking home.
"Okay, I will see you when you get home. Love you." She said.
"Love you too mom." I said before hanging up.
"You walking home?" A voice from behind me said.
"Um yes, actually." I turned and looked at the boy who had asked. He had blonde hair and a very white smile.
"It's pretty cold, and late, can I drop you off somewhere?" He asked through a rolled down window.
"I'm okay, it's not that long of a walk." I continued to walk.
"Are you sure?" He asked again.
"Yes, thank you though." I heard a door open up behind me. I quickly turned and saw the blonde boy had gotten out of his car.
"I'm Cody Woods, i'm in your first hour. I'm new here from Livingsdale High." The memory of seeing that boy in my first hour this morning popped into my head. "I just wanted to let you know in case the reason you were forcing yourself to walk was because you didn't want to ride with a stranger."
"Oh, yeah I remember you." I said, not sure what to say.
"I haven't had anything to drink, I was just hanging out watching the game on the TV, hoping to make some friends but it didn't seem like the guys at this party are the ones I want to befriend." He shrugged.
I couldn't help but laugh at his comment, agreeing with him because Steve was in there. "I don't blame you."
"Now are you sure I can't drop you off some place? It would make me feel a lot better than letting you walk on this dark, cold night." He smiled, causing me to let my guard down.
"I guess you can, Cody Woods from first hour." I smiled as I walked towards his truck. "You know, you're one of the very few guys from our school that I know that drive a truck."
"Am I really?" He asked as he opened the car door for me and shut it after I got in.
"Yes, and i'm not even over exaggerating!"
"Several people at Livingsdale have trucks." He said, I just nodded in response. "Where am I dropping you off at?" He asked me. He handed me his phone and I typed my address in. "What's your name again?" He asked. "I remembering hearing it this morning, I just can't remember it, bad memory." He frowned.
"Bostyn Jackson." I grinned.
"Well Bostyn Jackson, I think this is your stop." He said as he parked in my driveway.
"Thank you for the ride, I really appreciate it." I smiled as he unlocked the car and I opened the door.
"No problem, it was my pleasure. I wasn't going to let you walk home without a fight, anyways."
"I'll see you tomorrow, Cody."
"Bright and early in first hour, Bostyn." I grinned when he said my name.
I waved as I walked up my driveway and went to my door. I opened the door and looked back one more time, Cody was still sitting there, I waved and he backed his car out of the driveway.
"Shawn get a new car?" My mom asked as she peered out the window at Cody's truck.
"No, a boy from my first hour drove me home instead." My mom gave me a weird look. "I wanted to get home faster so you could go to bed, and Shawn still had to take that other girl home." My mom nodded and left it at that.
