I heard a car horn honk from outside. I walked over to my window, unlocked it and opened it up. Shawn was outside, leaning against the outside of his car. "Come in!" I yelled down to him. "I'll be down in a second."
"Okay." He said as he tucked his keys into his pocket and started walking towards my front door.
I made my way back to my vanity and grabbed three bobby pins. I sectioned a piece of my hair from each side off and pinned them back. "There we go, all ready to go." I said to myself as I took one last look in the mirror.
"You ready?" I heard Shawn ask as I started to walk down the stairs my strappy heels slipping on the hardwood.
"Yeah, sorry it took me a while, I couldn't find my mascara." I apologized.
Shawn looked at me and smiled. "You look great. Better than great, you look amazing."
"Oh stop it." I grinned.
"But hey, you're Bostyn Jackson, everyone expects you to look great." He added.
"Not true." I rolled my eyes. "No one even knows me."
"Not true." He said, mocking me. "You are popular you just deny it because you don't want to be."
"Popular kids are stuck up." Shawn had a fake offended look on his face. "Except for you, of course." I grinned.
"Oh how sweet of you." He joked. "Now let's go to Emma Beam's party!"
-
Half the kids at this party were already drunk by the time Shawn and I got to Emma's party, and it had only started an hour ago.
"Shawny!" Emma squealed as soon as she saw Shawn walk through her front door. She rushed over to hug him, her beer spilling out of the side of her red solo cup because of her quick movements.
"Emma, hey!" He hugged her. "Great party."
"Oh you haven't even seen half of it!" She rapped him on his shoulder and grinned. "And Bostyn, i'm glad you could make it!"
"Thanks." I smiled. Shawn looked at me and his eyes widened. "You have a really nice house!" Shawn's eyes relaxed after I said that and I gave him a dirty look for making me say something other than my 'thanks'.
Emma put her hand to her chest. "Thank you, Bostyn."
"Anytime."
"Now go and get something to drink, no sober people here!" She laughed before walking away.
"You want a drink?" Shawn turned to me. I gave him a dirty look, remembering what happened at the last party we attended together. "I'm not drinking, just offering to get you one."
"Well i'm good, thank you though."
"Want to dance?" He asked.
I looked over and saw my friend Madelynn across the room. "Maybe when a better song comes on. Okay?" I asked him.
I song I didn't recognize was thumping loudly in the background. "Yeah, sure."
"I'm going to go talk to Madelynn, you can make your rounds." I told him as I walked towards Madelynn.
"Look who decided to show up with her boy toy!" She said, a little too loud for my liking.
"Shawn's just my best friend." I laughed.
"Yeah okay, whatever you say." She winked at me as she gulped down her drink.
"Heavy drinker?" I joked.
"You know it. It's the weekend baby! And it's senior year, what do you expect me to drink, H-three-oh?" she asked.
"I think it's H-two-oh." I laughed.
"Huh?" Madelynn asked, confused. She tilted her head at me.
"Nevermind." I patted her shoulder and turned to see Alexa. "Hey." I smiled.
"Bostyn, hey, I haven't seen you in forever!" Alexa grinned. "Give me a hug."
She leaned in and we hugged. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too. How's your mom?"
"She's good! How's yours?"
"Great. She always talks about planning to meet up with your mom, just never ends up dialing the phone."
"Well i'm sure my mom would love to meet up with yours." I informed her.
"Great, i'll let mine know that. Hey, it was great seeing you, Bost. I'm actually heading out, though."
"Why so soon?" I asked.
"My younger sisters homecoming dance just ended." She rolled her eyes. "And guess who has to pick her up?"
"Hey Shawn's sister is there, too!"
"Aaliyah?" She asked.
"Yeah."
"Oh my sister talks about her all the time, she said she's really smart."
"She is, I love that kid."
"Aw I bet." A boy behind Alexa yelled something but it was so slurred you couldn't make out what he was saying. "Hey we should meet up too, i'll text you."
"Yes, sounds good!" I said as she leaned in and we hugged one last time before she left.
I turned to look for the next person I was going to talk to when someone put their hands on my shoulder. I tilted my head and saw the brown hair that I recognized so easily. "What's up?" I asked.
"Are your ears plugged or something?" He asked me, practically yelling. "This is your song! Let's dance!"
Shawn was right, 'No Hands' as crazy as it might sound, was my all time favorite song to dance to, and I smiled when I thought about Shawn remembering that.
