"You know he's still walking in graduation, right?" Steve asked as he squeezed into the booth next to Ava.

"I miss him." Jason said as he handed me his grapes.

"Thanks." I said as I took them and put them on my tray.

"Are you two still not talking?" Ava asked me.

"Not since he told me, no."

"Hasn't this gone on long enough?" Ava stared me in the eyes.

"He should have told me all along, not last minute."

"I know, I know." Ava reached her hand out to touch mine. "But you two are best friends, you're Shawn and Bostyn, you guys need each other."

"I don't need anyone." I stubbornly announced.

"Well okay, maybe you don't need anyone, but Shawn needs you." Jason nudged me. "That's for sure."

"Maybe he should have included me on what was going on in his life then."

The bell rang signaling that lunch was over. "Will you at least text him or something? Let him know you're alive and breathing?"

"I'll think about it."

-

"Bostyn, a package for you." My dad said as soon as I walked in the door.

"From who?" I asked.

"Not sure, I didn't read who it was from."

"Where is it at?" I asked.

"Kitchen table." He said as he pointed to the brown box on the counter.

"Thanks." I said as I walked to the counter and read who it was from.

"To: Bostyn Jackson From: Shawn Mendes" I sighed.

"Who's it from?" My dad asked.

"Shawn."

"You two still not talking?" He asked, dropping his paper to make eye contact with me.

"Nope."

"Hasn't this gone on long enough, Bostyn?" He asked me.

"I don't plan on talking to him anytime soon."

"I know, I know. But I still think-"

I tuned him out as I grabbed my keys and started to slash down the center of the box, ripping it open. Inside was a dark purple crew neck that had "UBC" in black outlined white block letters.

"Of course he would send me a stupid sweatshirt that I don't even want!" I said as I ripped it out of the box.

"He bought you something, send him a thank you."

"I didn't even want this." I said, shaking it in front of my dad.

A note fell out of the sweatshirt as I was shaking it in front of him. I bent down and grabbed it quickly, Shawn's chicken scratch all over it.

'I do care -Shawn'

I crumbled up the note and stormed upstairs with the sweatshirt under my arm. As soon as I got into my room I threw the note towards the garbage. It hit the side and fell onto the floor.

I went to grab the note and drop it in the garbage when I saw more writing on the back of it.

'I should have told you sooner, but didn't want to see you upset. If you ever forgive me, i'm in Turner house, dorm A.'

A part of me was sad as I read the note, knowing that Shawn was sad as he wrote it. I looked down at the note and threw it into the garbage, then grabbed a dry erase marker and wrote "Turner house, dorm A" before I rethought it and erased that too.
