Chapter Eighteen

"Darya!" Anya jumped off Dimitri's back and ran straight to her, wrapping her arms around her. She loved this girl so much!

She let her go, stood at an arm's length and checked her over, making sure those idiot guards had not touched her. "They did not lay a hand on me," Darya clarified when she realised what she was doing.

"Are you sure?" She nodded her head so she pulled her friend over to the battered, cushioned, wooden chairs and sat her down. Anya was so glad that she was okay because if she was not she was going to kill them. She had had enough of them. They chased Dimitri and her all the way through the woods and they had to make a de-tour and circle the cabin for almost two hours.

And in that time they managed to hardly say a word to each other as she sat on his back. How he was able to carry her like she was a feather is beyond words to Anya. Even then when he just put her down he did not look relieved or anything, only indifferent, like he had not just put her down after running straight for ages.

"Thank you," She told DImitri gratefully. His forehead was covered in sweat, his black hair was stuck to it just like his shirt was to his chest and Anya revelled in the sight and was not in the least bit ashamed, he was gorgeous but not perfect, his nose was crooked and he had a few scars on his face and neck but it only gave him character and made him more handsome in Anya's eyes. He slid against the wall onto the floor and had placed the third chair under the door handle so the guards could not enter.

There were no windows in there, the three people who sat in the main area could feel the enclosed atmosphere and Anya just did not know how the fisherman spent all day in here because she felt trapped almost.

The cabin was placed a good few minutes walk away from the lake as the fisherman did not want people to steal their food so they hid the cabin just behind some trees and away from eyesight from Lake Frontera but still lay on the edge of the woods.

"I can make the cabin invisible if you want," Dimitri offered as he glanced up at the two girls who were both moderately taken by surprise by the sudden intrusion of speech in the quietness.

Anya wearily looked at Darya who had a blank expression on her face. Anya knew how Darya felt about sorcerers and she knew that they did not trust them but after DImitri just saved her life, surely Darya had changed her opinions. However, she did not want to say anything, she wanted Darya to decide because it was her who struggled with the concept of Dimitri having magic but not being evil like she had stereotyped and believed almost her whole life.

"What do you think Darya, it is totally your decision."

She looked from Dimitri to Anya feeling lost. She liked Dimitri as a person but she did not like that he used magic, it was dangerous and she did not trust any of it. She did not like the King very much but she agreed with him on that point. Magic gave people more power than they should have and therefore that made them feel like they were better than herself and others.

But she also knew that if Dimitri did not hide them then they would be in a lot more trouble than before and a chair would not stop their swords from getting through the wooden door.

"Are there any side effects?" Her voice shook slightly, he shook his head in response so she nodded her head quickly before she changed her mind. She needed to get over it because this was bigger than just her.

He stood to his feet and with an unsure glance towards the girls, like they were going to tell him not to do it at the last second, he removed the chair and went outside.
