Anya
Chapter Whatever
She glanced from Darya to Dimitri not sure whether she should go through with this. She knew he was lying straight to her face, he was a pathological liar. How can you tell someone you love them when you clearly don’t? He does not even care for her; if he did then he would not have tried to go to the palace.
He wanted to kill her whole family, Anya knew he did. It meant nothing to her that he had come back to try and save her. He still killed her best friend and that was unforgiveable.
With a swift nod of her head, Dimitri bent down and picked up her lifeless body. Her head was limped to the side, her eyes closed and her arms dropped towards the ground. Anya choked on a sob and faced away from her. She couldn’t even look at her. She had such a tragic life; she did not deserve this one bit.
Anya climbed to her feet and started to lead the way to the palace, walking ahead of Dimitri. With every step she took it became gradually harder to carry on. She had just seen Dimitri in action, he killed two demons without blinking and that made him real. He was not pretending to be some powerful sorcerer, he was. Even though she believed his every word, it still hit home hard, now that she had seem he actioning the words he spoke.
“Anya,” he paused as he waited for her to answer him. She did not want to. She just wanted to carry on walking forward so that she did not have to acknowledge her dead best friend or the man who had betrayed her.
He let out an angry huff and jogged closer to her. “Anya.” He repeated.
She carried on facing down the path but relented in answering him. “What?” She snapped.
“When we get to the palace I am going to leave you alone there.”
She whipped her head around to him at his words but winced when she caught sight of Darya. “What did you just say?” She tried to keep her voice void of emotion but could not quite manage it. She was just too devastated.
He gulped but his eyes were a little lighter now that she was facing him and not pretending that he was not there. “When we arrive at the palace, I am going to leave you alone.”
She frowned; she wanted him arrested, not out in the open where he could do more damage! Everything she thought she knew about this man was false and the one thing that she wanted from him she cannot get. No, that will not do. He was being sent back to Anceps – she was going to make sure of it.
“I am not sure that is wise.” She told him.
He tilted his head to the side and looked at her curiously. “And why is that?”
“What do you mean?” She asked rhetorically. “I do not think it is for the best if you leave straight away.”
If Dimitri was only listening to her voice, he would suspect that she did not want him to leave her for comfort and she just did not know how to express her feelings but the stony, cold look on her face told a completely different story.
Her eyebrows were knitted together and her blue eyes were narrowed. To him, she looked like she wanted to throttle him.
“Anya, give me a reason.” He demanded when she appeared to not be pushing the conversation further.
She ignored him as she wandered further down the path, he small legs carrying her at a walking speed that only furthered the space between them.
