Chapter Thirteen
The storm had finally started to wind down but Anya did not sleep. All she did was worry, not only for herself but for Dimitri also. Her father and mother would be sending the guards out more often and for longer periods of time and that only met that they only had a matter of days before they found them and Dimitri would most certainly be punished for holding her even though he did not know who she was.
In all honesty, the fact that she had been away from all the responsibility the palace brought and also away from everyone who knew her was refreshing. She felt a new lease of life with Dimitri, he just oozed dangerous and although Anya knew he was, she also knew that he would never use his wand on anyone, she didn’t care about what he said about killing people.
At the palace she worried about her age because in less that four years time she would have to marry and yet she didn’t even care much for it out here, she was on the run and she found it exhilarating.
She also didn’t have to care about Lara’s affair, about upsetting her wretched grandfather nor about Mikhail. The man who had left her a complete mess had hardly crossed her mind since she left home and when she did think about him she didn’t feel the same way she used to.
Mikhail had truly broken and ripped open her heart and left it in tatters but in only a matter of weeks she could almost feel it mending back together again, she put it down to not being around anywhere that reminded her of him, she never brought him down to the cave because he lived in the Frambuesa faction and her grandfather was hard-pressed in giving people will to travel between the factions but in the back of her mind, a little voice told her it was Dimitri but she ignored it.
She loved being in Mikhail’s company, he was a little uptight but he was great for her, he gave her the release she needed from all of the tension at home but then before recent events she never really needed to truly escape, she used to have a great relationship with her sister and her mother acted more like a twenty-something year old than what she did and she had Viktoriya.
Only now the only person she could rely on was Dimitri and she was completely okay with that, she felt odd admitting it but just being in the company of him was more than enough for her, he told her stories of when he was a child with much enthusiasm and she felt like she knew his family well.
She had been ambassador to the Zafiro faction since she was eighteen years old and before meeting Dimitri she could have told you confidently that she knew every single person who lived in the faction but now she was unsure, how many other people did she not know? Where did they live? Where did the Kanatova’s actually live? It was like an enigma in an enigma that just served to confuse her even more.
Sat in the cave she was wrapped up in her thick cloak as she tried to keep the heat in, the fire went out during the night and she did not want to wake Dimitri as it was the most he had slept since they had met and he needed it and although she was freezing cold, she would not bother.
The wand had a black wick and she had never seen one before, she had seen a fairy’s wand but they were all coloured according to the faction they lived in but none of them were black.
It was on the ground next to where he lay and it was almost hard to resist picking it up and seeing what it could actually do but she didn’t want to anger Dimitri nor do something she would severely regret so she left it in its place.
She was meeting up with Darya today, it had been a week since they last saw each other and Dimitri stormed out after she said something that hurt him but she knew she needed to apologise to her best friend because she had known Darya since she was a child and to let the friendship just disappear over nothing would actually pain her. Sure she said that she only needed Dimitri for company but she wanted Darya, she was like another younger sister who she would do anything for.
