Nowa

"What is happening here?" Ghaith voice yelled at the two and I could see Inan's eyes drastically widened. the guy who I assumed was Andre instantly moved away from Inan while she was just frozen in her place.

"N-Nowa," I lifted my head from the scene that was going to happen and looked toward Meera who just called my name. "I wanna go to the bathroom ?" She whispers.

I went near her and that is when she asked for Sabrina, "Can Sabrina come with us, I want her to take me to the bathroom" The little girl demanded.

"Then why did you call me?" I asked ,trying to stay calm.

"Daddy told me, I call you instead of Sabrina now," She explained.

"Okay, let go and Sabrina will follow," I lied but I had no other choice , I wasn't going to ask Sabrina for help. I went to the bathroom which was at the end of the hallway with the little girl. I mean she can practice the piano but can't go to the bathroom on her own. Sheesh.

I sat there for like ten minutes and Meera was testing my patience since I was pacing and yelling "Are you done yet ?" for the past seven minutes.

"I want Sabrina," She slowly spoke as if she was afraid of my reaction.

"Fine," I try to maintain my calm tone as I went outside to look for Sabrina.

"He is coming,"

"Get inside the room,"

"Jesus, he looks really pissed"

All hushed whispers circled around the hallway.

"I can't believe that Inan finally got caught," I heard a blonde whispers to the boy next to her as I was only two rooms away from the place where I had left, where I hoped to find Sabrina.

"Its Ghaith , you expect that he would find out sooner or later," I heard the boy replay.

"Oh my god, He is dragging her out of the room from her hair," My eyes widened as I heard the girl's comment and I looked to see Ghaith was actually dragging the girl to the stairs that lead to the second floor.

"Inan is soo screwed, you know how Ghaith gets when he is angry, all he see is red." The blonde girl next to me commented as I couldn't help myself to go after Ghaith.

Even if what she was doing was Haaram and wrong but he should speak to her not drag her and humiliate her like that, She wouldn't listen to him in the future and she will just rebel again. I didn't care about what he would do to her or what where the consequences more than I cared that he was a Muslim and that would reflect on islam since people don't judge us for us but judge our religion and think that it was the cause for our action.

"Ghaith," I shouted from where I was standing and there where more than six rooms that separated us and I think most people who live in this huge mansion where looking at me when I shouted.

I walked toward him, "Come on, Ghaith, she is just a kid," I attracted his attention as I flinched back upon meeting the fiery glare shot at me from his cold eyes.

"Ghaith," Inan tried. "I didn't mean to, I'm sorry, I just-" She was sobbing.

"What ?" The husky voice of Ghaith stopped Inan's pleading. "Didn't know that you will get caught ? Didn't know that you were breaking my trust in you ? were you too focused smashing your face into his ? Inan" I caught that he was trying as much as he could to maintain his anger.

"Get out of my sight before I hit you," He threatened.

Inan nodded before she ran to a room and harshly slammed the door.

After what I said to him, He didn't react. He didn't even move. He just stood there, looking at me from a distance with those intense, unreadable eyes. My heart started pounding a mile a minute and cold shivers of fear traced down my spine.

"Um. Nowa? Please could you follow me to the room ?"

My muscles went on full lock down mode now, but my mind was going a mile a minute. There was uncertainty in this voice. He was asking me to follow him to his room. It wasn't a threat, or a demand, or an order. It was a question, with a 'please'.

Gah. 'Confused' didn't really cover it anymore. But then something happened that would have made me scream if I had been able to.

He came toward me and his face was so close and I didn't want to see his face so close to me, so I shut my eyes tightly. I knew it was a wrong thing to do, not being able to see what was coming, but I couldn't make myself meet his eyes right now. I had given up the hope that I would make it through this day without any pain.

I couldn't finish my thought however, as he put his hand in my mine and direct me to walk with him toward the second floor as I mange to walk with the crutch.

" I need to speak to you."

Without saying anything else, I could feel my palms growing sweaty as I followed him up the stairs, my steps small as I trailed behind.

We reached the room and I entered behind him as I sat in the couch that he is supposedly going to sleep in while he sat on the bed and we sat there in silent for several minutes.

"I've been talking to my father on the phone and he and I agreed that it was the best choice for me to leave you and I didn't agree with him at first but after what happened today," He breathed. "Nowa, I want to divorce you," he said at last as I felt my heart sink at that moment.

I felt a gasp escape my lips as I heard the words that I had not expected, but that I had hoped for. He was giving me permission to leave, to go home, to go back to my country and live my life. To divorce him.

My elation was short-lived as I realized what that would mean.

Going back to a home that would no longer be mine, living in a city where I didn't have a home or a means to support myself. And going back without Ghaith. Going back alone.

At that moment, I wondered why would his father order something like that from him and when did he even talk to his father but nonetheless, I felt kinda of relived to not have to take anymore of his orders or the hate that was going on.

"Ghaith, you can't  divorce me," I pleaded, unsure of what I expected his response to be or why I said those words but I didn't know what will happen next.

"I can do anything I want," he replied coolly.

"If we divorced, what will happen to me?" I asked quietly, afraid of his answer. Afraid he will let me get back to the country.

I hated being married to him but it was okay for me to be married to him instead of being in the country separated from my sister and living with my uncle's wife who will force me to be her long unpaid slave.

He looked at me for a long time without speaking, his ice hazel eyes holding me. I hadn't stopped shaking and I was sure he could see it, even from our far distance.

"You are, of course, free to do what you want," he shrugged at last. "You're not a prisoner."

I felt tears begin to track down my cheeks silently, while Ghaith looked on.

You're not a prisoner.

I met Ghaith's eyes, finding him standing and waiting and always watching me.

"Aren't I?" I whispered.

I thought I saw something weaken in him for a moment at my soft question. He looked surprised, almost startled for just a breath. Then he was shrugging and walking out and I wondered what the hell I had just done.
