Nowa
Monday passed in that same predictable and seemingly unshakable silence that always followed a fight. I was so used to it that I hardly noticed a difference, but there was a difference.
It wasn't silence following silence, as my life had been for two months ever since I removed the cast from my legs but It wasn't also tension and fear and immobility. It was the silence of stomping steps and slammed doors. It was the painful air after a break, anger and life crackling through the space.
Ghaith had took the Jeep and went outside the mansion at the usual time. For once, the click of the bedroom door didn't wake me up - I had already been awake for hours - and I tried to figure out how my life had ended like that.
My life is slipping away and I felt like an unwanted girl in the middle of all of this ,but at least I knew I wouldn't be stuck with him for an indefinite amount of time, but the feeling didn't last long. Not in this Mansion. I almost never witness quietness in this mansion, except after three AM when everyone is finally asleep.
At breakfast time like always, I went downstairs and found that people were already eating and just like the rest of the months I spent in this house, I felt there eye gaze always on me as if every moment was documented and I noticed that Ghaith's kid were just trying to avoid looking at me and there sad feature that was drawn upon their face made me want to just break the rule for once and ask them about their day for a change.
Dana ,on the other hand, forgot about her desire to stay and wanted to return, she was trying her hardest to make me come with her since she said that her husband is willing to pay for us to stay but I knew that wasn't the truth.
Her husband never liked Anfal and I and thought of us a tax to pay to spend time with Dana and I knew that the more she stayed at this house, the more she was driving herself away from me she she wouldn't feel as guilty for leaving.
In the past month, She rarely came to my room and so did I, We didn't talk like we used to since we both were arguing about our stay but I assured her that if she choose to leave, I would understand her but as for me, I have nothing left in that country, I needed to get away.
I was eating slowly as I stared out the window at the sensory that took my breath away until I noticed that someone had entered the house from the front door.
The sound of multiple footsteps had made their way to the dining room as the silhouette of a man and a women appeared. I looked closer as I tried to avoid the sun that took it place of the people that walked in and I found the man Ghaith had it picture hanging on the hallway wall, beside him was a women guarded by three large men, she looked to be very familiar but I didn't know where I have seen her before.
As for the man, The man reminded me soo much of Ghaith with his posture and those Ice eyes that I sow when he moved his sunglasses away. I was just looking for confirmation and I got it when Yaamin stood up from his seat.
"B-BOOOSS," The little boy spoke before he went to the old man as Sabrina quickly followed to hug the women next to him.
That was Ghaith's father but who was that women ?
I then remembered Inan telling us two month ago about him coming to visit but Ghaith never conformed his visit as for that women, she was unfamiliar to me but for the rest of the group, she was too familiar since most of the table was now empty as they went to greet them.
I looked toward Dana at that moment and the shock on her eyes had to tell me a different story. That women was not that familiar but I knew her from somewhere.
"N-nouhaila," A stunned Ghaith's father spoke as he was standing from a distance.
How did he know me ?
"Y-your Ghaith's father ?" I didn't even knew him or even knew his name but I only sow photos of him hanging in the hallways.
He smiled. "Please, Call me Fawaz."
His smile wasn't as gentle as the speech, his expressions made me think of Ghaith, he had the same look of anger that Ghaith held.
I stood in front of him politely as he made his way toward me. His skin was lighter than Ghaith's but at the same time his features were as harsh as Ghaith's. His age didn't show since his body built made him look younger and the way he took care of his skin.
The waves of grey in his hair wasn't highlighted but was noticeable and his eyes were darker and harsher than Ghaith's which I thought was impossible before I sow that man as for the women that was beside him that is now covered with the crowd, had flawless and flushed in the cold skin and her, Her eyes were a soft hazel.
The man in-front of me sighed contentedly and walked in the hallway and signed for me to follow as he looked at the walls, the stairs, the doors to other rooms. "It's nice to see the mansion again."
I nodded, unsure of what to say.
Ghaith's father stepped ahead of me and made his way into the living room.
"Have I interrupted your breakfast !" I heard him exclaim, putting his hand on his head with frustration.
I shocked my head.
He turned back to me, his face full of some type of expectation.
"Were you looking for Ghaith?" I asked, shuffling my feet together as a wave of awkwardness struck me suddenly. "Because he's out on the island. He usually doesn't come home until later in the evening."
Ghaith's father smiled. "Oh, I know." He brushed my information aside with a flick of his hand. "I came out here to see you and make sure you get out of the island since the divorce is finalized between you and my son."
"Get out of the island?" I asked curiously as if trying to tell him how.
I mean really how did he even get to the island when its hurricane season.
He nodded. "I will have to get you out of the island tonight,"
"What about my sister and how are you going to get us out of here its hurricane season ?" I asked
My brow furrowed as I tried to remember Ghaith always complaining about this hurricane and how it is keeping me here but in reality he could of have made me leave this island.
I don't understand why Ghaith is doing this or what is his Gain.
I forced myself to smile through my irritation, reminding myself that Ghaith had no reason to made this choice instead of me.
Even thought its safe here, I can't bare more of those stares that looked like daggers pointing at me and the fact that my sister and I become distant after living at this mansion didn't help the case either.
There was one thing that Ghaith's father, Fawaz, got wrong which is the fact that we are divorced since we were still legally married.
"Yes it may be a hurricane season but I got a professional aviator that will get you and your sister out of here just like the way he got us into this island and beside it has been more than three months so hurricane season is almost over ," He explained.
"Um...what?"
He chuckled. "We will leave tonight," he repeated slowly.
My mouth hung open as I digested his words.
Did it mean what I thought it meant? Was I finally able to live without those stares ? Should I learn to live without Ghaith ?
