Nowa

I winced in pain as I sat up in my bed. I must have slept in an awkward position, because it felt like my leg was bent the wrong way or something, which of course only led to more pain. A soft cry escaped me as I carefully tried to slide my legs over the edge, so I could leave the bed.

The chatter from the other room quieted immediately, and I heard someone near the room. A soft knock on the door was followed by it swinging open.

"Nowa, you okay?" Dana asked softly as she entered the room. She raised her hand to stroke my hair, but I flinched and leaned back so her hand was touching nothing but air. She frowned and shook her head disapprovingly. "Are you in pain? Where do you keep your medication?" she asked, and I quirked an eyebrow at her.

I wondered if Dana knew our mother and knew she is since she was toddler when she left us. I wondered why she was shocked when she first her enter the room. was it because she was a celebrity or because she remembered she was our mother ?

"I'm fine," I replied through clenched teeth. "Leave me alone."

"Let me help you to the bathroom," she said, still with that disapproving frown on her face.

"I can help myself, thank you," I muttered.

"Whats up with that attitude! " She annoyingly asked.

"Nothing," I stated dismissively at her as she left the room.

I climbed out of bed and went to dress up before I headed to the living room downstairs.

Dana had joined the others in the living room. I threw a glance at the clock above the television – which never seemed to be working – and noticed it was barely after ten in the evening. No wonder I felt drained, I hadn't gotten much sleep at all, and the sleep I did get was mostly restless and uncomfortable.

"Good evening, Nowa, you're just in time for dinner," Millicent said with a smile. I pretended as if I hadn't heard her as I made my way outside. "I thought Ghaith and you talked about not running away to the forest," She argued when she realized where I was going. I sighed deeply and turned to her.

"I need fresh air." I kept it short and didn't want to get into it with her as I sow that most girls and instructors were at the living room.

I headed toward the door and about five seconds later I found myself on the floor. I looked up to find lake who is Dana's roommate accompanied by Sabrina.

That was just great, I thought.

"Hey watch it!" Lake snapped and I glared at them.

"Me watch it? You were the one that ran into me." I snapped.

"Did she just talk to me with that tone ?" She asked and I stood up and rolled my eyes.

I don't know why she talked to me that way, I mean what did she have against me is something beyond me.

"Yes I was talking to you, there were no other blonde idiot around at the moment, now if you would excuse me I need a fresh air."

"Look when are you going to leave this island, you don't belong here and quit with this innocent facade, we all now you are just a snake who is only waiting for Ghaith to take her back," She looked down and dared to say, "You are just a trash that Ghaith got rid off so why don't you leave" and at that point I couldn't hold myself and I slapped her across her face.

"what is going on here ?" I looked over to find Faye standing between lake and I after sabrina gasping and lake was speechless from what I could see.

As I looked at her closer, she looked younger than she looked on tv. She was holding a glass of water and was dressed in a tight fitting black dress with matching black heels and her wavy brown hair was pulled into a low side pony tail while her hazel eyes barred into my soul. In a twisted way it seemed as if I was looking into a mirror that aged myself ten years.

"You are Nowa, right ?" She asked curiously as I caught my self staring at her for the past five minutes and to her it must seem as if I an idiot or something. I finally answer with a nod.

Before Faye could even talk, I was knocked down to the floor.

"Don't even think about slapping anyone ever again," Sabrina stated as she was the one that pushed me.

I felt like I was in kindergarten with all that pushing around. I then felt a cold chill and find myself wet from Faye spilling the water all over me.

I stared at her in a blank glare as I didn't know what to do next. I felt tears in my eyes but I didn't want to give them the luxury of seeing me broken so I ran upstairs as fast as I could.

I was in pain. Not physical pain. But pain nonetheless.

I found my legs guiding me toward a room with a certain voice that felt like a safe haven. I opened the door to find Ghaith with Meera sleeping on his lap.

"sssshhhh" Ghaith stated without looking up as he lay Meera on her bed. He then looked up to find me socked in water with tears in my eyes and for a moment Ghaith looked horrified as he quickly asked. "W-what h-happened..." he stuttered.

"Faye did," I cut him off calmly. Then I looked at him as he signaled for me to come to the room and I came and closed the door after me as I sow Yaamin and Meera sleeping in their separate beds.

I continued, "Everything happened too quickly but I am frustrated and angry and hurt and angry, Did I even mention how angry I am."

Ghaith swallowed.

"Ya once or twice," he nodded, at last.

With that, he went toward the cabinet and took a towel and handed it to me. I was reluctant to move as I thought of why I came to Ghaith from all people.

"Nowa?" His voice was soft.

I looked at him. "Yeah?"

He paused for a moment.

Then, "Are you okay?"

I could help but form a sad smile that found it way to crawl across my face that mirrored his. He nodded in understanding and walked out the door and signed to me to follow him as he carefully closed the light.

I couldn't answer the question and he didn't seem to need the answer.

We both already knew the answer.

"I'm tired... I think I'm going to bed now." My voice betrayed my emotionless mask, and it cracked in the most humiliating way. I stood up and steadied my shaking body.

I walked away, and I could feel his eyes follow me but I wished he did.
