If there was one thing that I had to never worry about, it was Christmas presents. Christmas always seemed dumb and stupid even when I was with my own family. Christmas with Sadie was clocking into a hotel and ordering pizza, watching illegal downloads of Harry Potter or National Treasure until 12:00 p.m. and then go to sleep (or at least try to). But, this year, I'll try to get into the Christmas spirit, for Paige's sake. And my sanity.
I already had gotten christmas presents for everybody but Walt. Paige is getting a perfume and also a book on mathematics, Sly is getting the movie Super Fun Guys that he wanted so much, Happy is getting a gift card to that hardware store that she shops for her tools and Toby is getting a casino chip as a key chain, but I written something on it. And I got tickets to the Science Museum for Ralph. He hasn't been there, so I thought why not.
So, that's why I'm here, sitting at the lunch table with earbuds inside my ears, yet there is no music playing, trying to think of what to give a guy who barely talks to me, but I live with him.
God Dammit, what the hell do give a man who has a 197 IQ?!
I snapped out of my mindscreen and internally groaned. Not one frickin' thing popped into my mind. I looked around the table. Daniel and Zach were absent in school today, so it was just me, Ralph, Matt, Tiffany and Nico sitting at the table.
"Hey Ralph?" Matt called out as he picked up a grape from his lunch tray.
Ralph looked up from his book that he was reading and closed it. "Yes, Matt?"
"Your a smartass and everything, right?" Matt asked, his dark brown eyes focusing on the grape.
Ralph blinked, confused about the question. "Uh, yeah? I guess."
"I have a question for you." Matt studied the grape in his hand. "Is water wet?"
Ralph and I both exchanged looks, our faces were like, is he joking?
" No." Ralph answered. "According to Wester's dictonary, the definition of wetness is the state or condition of being covered or saturated with water or another liquid. So, wetness is a feeling, not a thing."
Matt smirked as he popped the grape into his mouth. "That's what he said."
"MATT!" Nico, Tiffany and I scolded Matt as Matt just laughed, Ralph sighing and shaking his head.
"God, when are you going to zip that mouth of yours?" I took a drink of my soda, sighing as I placed the can down. "Did you go to Health class, like five years before us?"
"Look who's talking." Matt pointed out and fiddled with a pen in his hand. "I just share my knowledge to the world, so it could be a better place... and to stop shows like 16 & Pregnant."
"At least we can agree on that." I mumbled, plopping my sandwich back onto the table.
"Aw, what's gettin' you down, Katt?" Matt leaned forward to me and did the poutty lip at me. "Did the cat get your pants this morning?"
"Shut up." I playfully went to smack him, but Matt dodged and winked at me instead. I rolled my eyes and stuck out my tongue.
"But, ya still didn't answer my question yet." Matt said and pushed his lunch tray to the left side of him, since that's were Zach sits.
I groaned and ran my fingers through my hair. "Stupid Christmas shopping."
"You couldn't get the limited edition before it sold out?" Tiffany chimed into our conversation.
"I couldn't find a Christmas present for Walt." I corrected as I move the can of soda in a circular motion.
"Walt Disney?" Matt questioned, furrowing his eyebrows at me. "Isn't he dead?"
