I told my mom I took my meds.

But really I threw them away. I told her I had been taking them for a week and half. I told her nothing was wrong, that all was fine and dandy. But my mom, oh she didn't even wanna hear it.

She told me to do something and I told her no. She told me to get up and I said no. I didn't go to school for a bit. But Luke got worried, so he came over one day after school. I probably looked like some crazed woman, in my sweats and over sized long sleeved t-shirt and un brushed hair.

I grabbed some water and handed Luke his cream soda and bugles. I went up to my room, crawling back under my fluffy blankets, and picked up shiver, my current book I was reading. I hadn't read it in a while. It was the only fantasy, werewolf book I can actually stand. I hate twilight with a burning passion. Its so unrealistic. At least shiver is sorta, in a werewolfy way. Besides, Same seemed sexy and Grace did too. There relationship seemed super cute and mystic. You could say I shipped them.

"So whats wrong?" Luke finally asks me.

Me: Nothing

Luke: Liar

Me: am not

Luke: are too

Me: am not

Luke: we are not little kids anymore Shel.

I sat up in bed and smacked Luke on his shoulder with my book.

"You sick again?" He asks.

I laid back down on my bed replying, "Im always sick. Ever since...that day."

"What do you mean? What day?"

I refused to tell further tell anything.

"I feel so empty."

"Why?" Luke asks running his hands through his hair.

"Nothing, never mind." And that was that. For now.

Latter on as I cried while watching Hachi, curling up against Luke he asked me why I was crying so hard.

Me: because for one its like a super sad movie in general. And I connect to it.

Luke: how so?

I said nothing.

Luke: It has something to do with your dad right?

Me: yeah.

I sighed.

"Ill tell my sob story latter, okay?"

"Okay. Promise?" He asked

"Maybe..." I teased. He just gave me a look. "I promise." I sighed.

****

"Okay! Lets get to work!" Luke yelled as he began to write.

After wards Luke asked,

"Whats wrong?"

"Nothing." I replied quietly.

"I hate liars."

"Good thing Im not lying!"

"Just please tell me!"

"I said nothing Luke! Nothing!" I yelled

"Please, Shel!"

"No Luke!" I shouted going to my back yard. But of course he followed me.

"Luke pleas just go....."

He sat down beside me, handing me his jacket. His eyes meet mine,

His hand moved a stray strand of my hair.

"Shel, Don't shut me out please."

Luke whispered.

"I don't want to." He began to smile, but sadly my next sentence would make him frown.

"I wanna shut the world out Luke." I sighed, hiding my hands with my face.

"Why?"

"Reasons."

"No one knows your past?" Luke asked.

I nodded. How did he know?

"Ill leave it." He finally said. "Just try to not shut me out?"

"Not on purpose, I won't." I smiled.

"You know I can't stop being around you."

"Why?"

"I like you."

"I know."

"And I don't like being told what to do."

That brings me back to memories, memories of hurt and death.

•flashback•

Serenity.

She didn't deserve this.

I was dressed in a tiny black dress, my hair down, blowing in the wind. The air cold and dark.

A girl lays in a coffen.

She walked to school with the lunch she packed, she wore the same dress, days in a row. Bruises covered her petit body. She wished she were never born.

She cried herslef to sleep. She says the neighbors hear, but turn off the lights and shut the blinds. I wanted to save her and help her, but when morning came it was too late.

A statue stands in a shaddy place. A name is written on a polished rock. A fragile soul, the world forgot.

I stared at the black bed she laid in.

The night before she came to me. We were 12 then. Serenity was my guardian angle.

Then goodbye came.

"Help! Shelby, she won't stop! I have to listen to her. She tells me that she hates being told what to do. My Dad, he tried to

Take me back again today." She cries as we lay in my back yard at night, on my trampoline. I hold her tight as she cries. I offered her to stay the night. She refuses. She walked home to her drunken mother. •

Luke realizes Im crying.

"Whats wrong shel?" He asks.

"I killed her!"

"What, who?" Luke asks, hugging me.

"Serenity, my best friend. I let her go back to her house." I cry.

"You didn't kill her." He whispered. I told him about Serenity, my best friend."

"Is that it?" He asks.

"Of that one, yeah. But, theres more."

"How much more?"

"Too many."
