"Amethyst Cooper, your up next." The announcer was loud and clear over the sounds of swimmers kicking and cursing at their scores. I stood up from my bench and fixed my swimsuit. It was soft and tight on my body and almost begging me to jump in the water. Luckily, that's all i knew how to do.
I never had an education, only in swimming. I did go to school but i was never good at anything besides sports. I'm not afraid to admit it either.
I walked out of the locker room and suddenly, i was surrounded by camera flashes and people screaming my name. It was nothing new, i've been doing this since i was five years old and now i am in Stanford waiting to swim for a career. The media pretty much watched me grow, saw my ups and downs, my worst performances and the best ones. I was living the dream life.
I jumped in the pool and started the race, faster than the others or so i thought. I saw a buff figure swim past me. I stopped. I had never been passed before. After my short stop, i heard the buzzer. I smiled, happy knowing i won until i realized i wasn't at the end.
"History has been made today!" Said the news reporter. "I am Susy Walts and your watching channel 8 news, today, The swimming legend; Amethyst Cooper has been beat!"
All the voices and boo's faded out, i was just staring at everyone booing me but i couldn't hear.
Finally, i went back to reality.
"Liam Fields beat the record-breaking Amethyst Cooper, how does it feel?" I heard Susy Walts say.
"No, he did not." I stormed towards the news reporter interviewing Liam Fields, i payed no attention to him. "I clearly would've won if i hadn't have stopped so you know what?" I turned to the camera, "Fuck you!"
About an hour later, i was hiding from the media in the locker room. I stared at my phone which was filled with news about my comment.
Knock! Knock!
"Go away." I answered the knock.
The door opened, it was Liam Fields. I was starstruck, i didn't realize how beautiful he was.
brown eyes.
dark skin.
jet black hair.
nice body.
"I did beat you, Amethyst." He smirked. "Guess i'm the record-breaking one now."
