I went out alone for coffee the day after my conversation with Stanford's new swimmer, Elizabeth Rocks. I needed to get all my thoughts out and i needed to get away from everybody i knew, Liam, Alexia and Elizabeth (Beth).
I never even had friends before College and i guess you could say that I still don't. Liam and Alexia are just people i know and Elizabeth is just someone i met yesterday.
My desire of getting a coffee alone was crushed by a familiar face.
"Hey, Amethyst." Liam waved at me.
I waved back and walked toward the table Liam was sitting at. "I thought you said you didn't want to talk to me?"
He sighed, "I'm over my tantrum." He admitted. "I was silly for being mad at you for keeping me as a friend and not...you know...a boyfriend."
"Well, it's like you said...We are supposed to be head-to-head right now not dating or even hanging out." I replied.
"Are you taking the coffee to go or do you want to sit with me?" He asked.
"Amethyst Cooper?" The barista called. "Your coffee is ready."
I hesitated, "I can sit for a hour, just don't bore me." I joked.
I went to pay for my Coffee then came back and sat on the high stools with Liam. He smiled like he was happy i decided to hang out with him and being completely honest, i was happy to hang out with Liam again. It seemed like we were always being torn apart by something. First it was the first argument we had, then it was the kiss. It felt nice to talk to Liam before we were torn apart again.
"How have you been doing, Liam?" I asked. "Back on track?"
"My family visited last weekend, they aren't very supportive of me." He explained. "The whole time they were here, they just-"
"Criticized you?" I finished his sentence.
Liam smiled faintly. "Yeah." He paused. "When i get in the Olympics, I'll be successful and traveling the world...away from my family."
The thought of that made me happy for him. That's all he wanted, away from the people who make him feel bad. It came to me that if me or Elizabeth won, we would take his dream away from him. That was a comforting thought...not.
Liam and I had fun talking and it felt good, even though i wanted to be alone, I realized I didn't like being alone at least not when Liam was there.
I heard the bell on the door ring but I thought nothing of it. That is until, Elizabeth came walking toward us like she owned the place. Liam saw my eyes going past him, so in curiosity he tried to turn around but i stopped him.
Elizabeth smiled at us and held her hand out to Liam, "Hi, I'm Elizabeth Rocks, you've probably heard of me before."
Liam shook her hand, "Actually i haven't."
Her smile faded and I snickered.
"I'm surprised." She said. "I've heard many things about you from Amethyst."
He raised his eyebrows at me, "You have?"
"Yes, but she didn't say you were this handsome!" She flirted.
I almost gagged in disgust, "Well, i have to keep the best to myself."
Elizabeth and I had a stare down and from the corner of my eye, i noticed Liam was enjoying women fight over him.
"I have been told I am quite the handsome devil." He joked.
Elizabeth laughed and it was obvious she was faking it, but i didn't judge her...I was doing the same thing.
I could also tell that Liam was taking an appeal to her. Her blonde hair, greenish eyes and a great swimmer.
I snapped back into reality in time to hear Elizabeth ask Liam out for dinner tonight.
"Sure, i would love too." He smiled. "I've been craving some food."
Elizabeth flashed her perfect teeth, "Oh, and since i asked you, I'll pay."
"Even better!" He laughed.
"What?" I asked. "I thought we had a race?"
"I'll cancel, you can race someone else." He told me. "Plus, your probably tired of losing to me all the time, you can finally beat someone."
I stared at him. "Very funny."
He laughed. "I was kidding, I'll see you tomorrow though, Ok Ame?"
"Sure, whatever."
As i walked out of the coffee shop, I knew deep down inside that i was just jealous but i couldn't help the feeling that Elizabeth was up to something and it wasn't good.
So, i had a plan.
