As they flew, Moon pondered the vision she had seen. Water had gushed from Winter and Kinkajou's snouts as they flailed helplessly in a pool of blood. She picked up some of Desert Rose's thoughts as the pretty SandWing sulked.
...waste of time... ....could be helping Thorn..... ....wish I was with Garnet.... ....SkyWing border tonight.... ...late...
Three moons, was Desert Rose dating a SkyWing? No time for that, Moon. She chastised herself. Hmmm, maybe I could get some advice...
Qibli nudged her. "What's up?"
Moon blushed at his scales' touch. "I was listening to Desert Rose's thoughts, and it sounds like she's dating a SkyWing!"
Qibli gasped, and Desert Rose shot them an annoyed look and flew ahead, showing her discomfort of flying with them.
"Let's discuss it later," he whispered. "We're almost here."
They neared the rainforest. The trees loomed above, seeming to project rays of light from the colorful fruit.
Moon picked up many pieces of thoughts.
...my stupid hammock... ....ugh my shift is up.... ....wow, its finally hatching....
She blocked them out using the trick Darkstalker taught her, slipping each thought into a raindrop and sending them to cascade on the canopy around her.
Lost in her own thoughts, she felt Qibli nudge her again.
"Moon, are you alright? Desert Rose just suggested we look for signs of attack in the major waterfalls."
"Hmm?" she replied. "Yes, sorry. I'm ready."
Moon raised her voice so Desert Rose would pay attention.
"Guys, we should check the Seven Scales Cascades and the Ash Falls. They are the two biggest waterfalls in the rainforest."
The others agreed. They flew towards the Ash Falls and arrived soon.
Desert Rose sneered. "Nothing. Moon, I'm annoyed you made this up. NightWing."
Moon grew angry. She saw Qibli flashing her a look of pity. Moon was usually reserved, but this one couldn't slide past her.
"Look, Desert Rose or should I say Salty Rose? I'm sorry you can't see your illegal SkyWing boyfriend right away, but some dragons' lives are on stake, so I think being one hour late might be alright for you, or should we call Garnet to come and rescue you from the hard work? Or should we call Queen Thorn? She might have some good relationship advice, or a new spot open for the advisor once you've been fired."
Qibli gave her a high five. "Moon," he whispered. "I'm not one to brag but wow. Please teach me."
Moon felt bad. Desert Rose looked pretty devastated.
"Desert Rose, I'm so sorry."
Desert Rose was crying, tears streaking out of her bright blue eyes. "It's just been so hard, managing a full time job and a boyfriend."
Qibli looked sorry for her. "Desert Rose, we didn't know..."
"No, I'm fine. I need a minute alone. You brought me to my senses. I'll meet you at the Seven Scales Cascades. And by the way, wow. You must be psychic or something."
If only you knew, Moon thought to herself.
The two searched for any evidence after Desert Rose left and found none. They were flying towards the Seven Scales Cascades when they heard a bloodcurdling scream.
"Desert Rose!" they both gasped, recognizing her high pitched voice.
Moon and Qibli flew as fast as they could go towards the famous waterfall.
"Qibli," Moon stuttered. "If that was the same force that took Winter and Kinkajou, it must be dangerous and out for dragon blood, no matter what tribe."
Qibli gave her a look of desperation and flew even faster.
They arrived at the Cascades. After they saw it, Moon put her head into Qibli's scales before laying her head on the unconscious dragon's chest.
"Winter," she cried. No! How could this happen to the dragon she loved?
