He can't do this. He could never do this.
Patrick, a little boy with dark blonde hair and black rimmed glasses, had locked himself in the boys bathroom and was crying his eyes out when he suddenly heard the door creak open. He held his breath to prevent himself from making a noise. Whoever the unwanted guest was he just wasn't going to leave. Patrick's head began aching so he started to breathe again. Can't this dude just leave? Patrick just wanted to be alone. Suddenly someone knocked on the stall door.
"Patrick?"
He didn't recognise that voice. Why would a stranger look for him? Maybe he was looking for a different Patrick? It wasn't a rare name. Patrick tried to be as quiet as he could even know it was kinda obvious he was in there. The stranger didn't leave. It felt like hours passed but it had only been five minutes. Patrick got tired of the game the stranger was playing with him. He unlocked the door and opened it just to stare into two dark eyes. Patrick didn't know the guy who was standing in front of him . Well, he saw him walking trough school a few times. But he didn't know him personally. He dried his eyes with his sleeve.
"What do you want from me?"
"Mrs Flack sent me. You need to be on stage in 10 minutes!" the guy said while looking straight into Patrick's eyes. Patrick stared down at the floor. Wow, there was quite a lot of dirt.
"I'm not gonna play."
"Why not?"
"I can't play the piano." Patrick said and tears filled up his eyes again. He aggressively wiped them off. There was no way he would cry in front of someone he didn't even know.
"Yes you can. I heard you playing on Friday. You were awesome! How old are you again?"
"Leave me alone." Patrick said and was about to walk back into the stall but the strange guy grabbed his arm.
"My name is Pete by the way." he said and reached out his other hand.
"I'm still not going on stage." Patrick ignored Pete's introduction.
"Give me a reason."
"I'm not good enough."
Pete raised an eyebrow. "Are you serious?"
"Yes."
There was a moment of silence. Pete let go of Patrick's arm.
"You really think you're that bad?"
"Yes."
"And why did Mrs Flack choose you to play piano at the school festival then?"
Patrick opened his mouth but close it again afterwards. He looked down again.
Pete watched him for a few minutes.
"Do you have a dream, Patrick?"
Patrick looked up, confused by the sudden change of topic. "I don't know....What about you?"
Pete started smiling, "I'd really like to be a captain. You know, having your own ship and stuff. Of course it's a lot of responsibility." he looked up to the ceiling. "The blue sky above your head and the blue sea below."
"Not if there's a sea storm."
Pete looked back at Patrick. "Pffft, I can handle that."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course. I could get a ship out of trouble with my eyes closed and with one hand tied behind my back!!" Pete said proudly. He has probably never been on a ship before.
Pete looked at his watch, "You have 4 minutes left. You can still decide if you want to perform or not."
Patrick started sweating and nervously playing with his shirt.
"Listen dude, if you're really scared of what other people will think about you... then just pretend they aren't there. Focus on me. Act like I'm the only person who listens."
He took both of Patrick's hands and looked him deep into the eyes.

"Play for me."

There was something in his eyes that made Patrick calm down. He somehow felt like he could trust this guy.
"But...are you sure it's-"
"It's gonna be awesome." Pete said excited.
Patrick smiled.
"Well maybe i could try..."
"So, you're gonna play?"
Patrick looked at Pete, smiling.
"Aye Aye, Captain!"
So they left the room and ran through the halls leading to the auditorium.
