The party was dying down, and we were all tired from the horrors we had been through. Suddenly one name flickered in my mind. Ryan. I start calling out, as he couldn't of died. He was so sweet. There wasn't any replies. My searched became frantic, then I reached the end of the boat. Shadows fell over the ocean, but outlined something floated, a few yards out to sea. As it was the only chance I had, I swum and swum. The water chilled me to the bone. I drew closer and realised on thing. It was, most definitely, George Ryan Ross III. I dragged his lifeless body into my arms and screamed as loudly as I could. I looked down at him, studying his face on last time. His dark brown eyes were open, and seemed glazed over. I closed them gently.
"You never got to meet Drisella Kokane." I murmured, trying to lift my spirits. Only then, did I give up, and drift into the everlasting darkness...
- Patrick's POV -
I approached the small man, who was sitting on the bow of the boat, head in hands.
"Hey there, you okay?"
No reply. I shrug, and walk away. As I stood on the roof of my small cabin, which was now full of drunk people who had finished my much needed whiskey supplies, I look out to the almost sunk ship. I was expecting to see only very little, but there was movement. Reaching for my spyglass, I hoped to God I didn't miss anyone. I did. The captain stood proudly on what was left of the boat. When he noticed me, instead of calling for help he saluted me. It reminded me of a few words my once good friend had written, and I had sung on that old stage:
"They say the captain goes down with the ship, so when the world ends, will God go down with it?"
Then I recognised him. The cheeky smile, the bright eyes; it was Pete. Not able to watch anymore, I went back down and sat next to the lost man.
"What's up?" A hoarse voice whispered beside me.
"You tell me first, you've been like this for longer."
"Okay." I pause and wait for him to start his story.
"Well?"
"Okay, okay... It's not easy, you know..."
"I know Mr... Umm..."
"Iero, Frank Iero."
"Nice to meet you, Frank, I'm Patrick Stump." He smiled kindly at me.
"I may ask questions, but don't say a word. I don't think I could talk about to anyone but myself." I nod at him, willing him to go on.
"Have you ever loved someone so much that they felt like your world? You want to protect them, and make them happy. I had that someone, I cannot say his name. It would kill me to do so. He was amazing, yet he's gone now. He never deserved that. I wish he never won those tickets, even if it meant we would have never met. He would still be alive, wouldn't he? He wouldn't have had to sacrifice himself for me. But he did. And he's truly gone... forever." He looked at me sadly, " Now tell me your story, Patrick."
"He was my world too, Frank. He was very different than me in many ways, yet we got along perfectly. He was the captain of that ill-fated ship. I have spent my entire life searching the globe for him, and now I have found him. But he is also gone forever. He once wrote the words 'They say the captain goes down with the ship, so when the world ends, will God go down with it?' He went down with his ship, and yet I don't see myself as his God, I feel like I should go down with my world. Will you do me a favour Frank?" I look at him hopefully. He nods slowly.
"Look after Sarah Smiles for me, would you? She's been a good boat to me these past few years."
Frank nodded again, then his eyes grew wide as I stood up and looked out to sea.
"No, Patrick! Wait!"
He was too late, I had already thrown myself into the icy depths of the ocean, to be with my Pete.
Overhead, a single seagull circled, a sorrowful look in its beady, black eyes.
